Sorry for the grandiose title - mods, feel free to move this to Paris Hilton if it's better suited to go there.

I've set up a little competition in the Craccum Books pages, based around the My Penguin series - these are classics which ship with blank front covers, so you can design whatever you want on the front. We've got five of the six books to give away (no Crime and Punishment, sorry folks!) as below:

- Jane Austen, Emma
- The Brothers Grimm, Magic Tales
- Oscar Wilde, The Picture of Dorian Gray
- Marcus Aurelius, Meditations
- Virginia Woolf, The Waves

As shown below, except minus that last one.

Want to win the lot? Pick one of the five books, design a cover, and send it in by the first day of Semester 2. Editors We'll pass judgment on the entries and the winner takes all. Paint, draw, photoshop, anything at all. You can either hand it in to the Craccum offices or email it to books@craccum.co.nz.

Look forward to seeing the responses. Smile

Nuts, I haven't actually read any of those, which may complicate drawing a cover. Well, I'll try.

Well, here is my first entry: The Picture Of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde. To be honest, I don't think I have much of a chance, but I am willing to listen to all suggestions that might help me improve on what I already have.

NB I uploaded the picture before I picked up on the spelling mistake, but I'm pretty sure Penguin will be able to photoshop that out or something.

OK, I spent slightly longer on this one and it shows. Meditations by Marcus Aurelius.

OK, because I don't have the patience/ masochistic tendencies necessary to draw something good on Paint, I will share my awesome, sure-to-win idea. Perhaps you could do it Tama?

All the main characters from the above books having a big orgy. Let your imagination fill in the blanks.

There were actually seven characters in The Waves and I'm pretty sure none of them were wolves. Or had machine guns.

That's just conjecture.

True. From memory, that book wasn't illustrated at all, so I couldn't say for sure. It wasn't mentioned in the text, however.

This competition is now closed. Thanks to all who entered, although I may have been asking a bit much, even for a prizepack of five books.

Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf is the first most awesome play EVAR written and ever performed at the Maidment.
One of the best nights of my life, no exageration.

People on the internet think you are cool

I felt that that needed to be included.
