Title: This Weeks Issue

i thought this weeks edition was superb, and the serious content was really well done, particularly i think shamar, was that his name?

jon i wrote at least 9000 words of articles that didnt get printed last year, alan said some of it was over done.

so i guess hell dont give up, go have a chat and ask for frank opinions.

Hes already told me it was badly written, doesnt get anymore frank than that.

Im not writing anymore

kiwi_hockey_guy - August 8, 2005 10:38 AM (GMT)
Fez, send me a copy of it, im on MSN.........

Boy Wonder - August 9, 2005 12:25 AM (GMT)
part of the beauty of craccum, in my opinion, is its ability to have serious, well written, political articles on one page, then somthing like a photoshop of George Bush taking Saddam from behind with Brian Tamaki filming them on the next. The latter type was missing from this weeks edition.

Agreed. We really should do something about that (see Photoshop Ideas thread).

Glad a few people liked my China internet article. :) I would actually have liked to make it a bit longer and cram in some proper info, but it was nice to see it there. Especially with a new headline and pics from the editors which made it a bit more interesting.

Steveo - August 9, 2005 08:55 AM (GMT)
Fez dude, get over it. There will always be other articles :)

I see we have the same problem toby. Last year i submitted a piece every week but they told me to shove them all up my ass.I couldn't understand why? and then my lecturers did the same and i realised i had a serious problem. Does anyone know how it feels to have a piece of paper shoved up their ass? all i could think of was anal paper cuts..... the thought made me cringe so i gave up writing. so you should give up jon.

You should put tape over the top edges then roll it up, dawg.

Smooth paper insertion every time.

Steveo - August 11, 2005 02:49 AM (GMT)
^^^ Teh pro

maniacnymph - August 11, 2005 04:52 AM (GMT)
i liked the chinese internet article, to be honest its the only one i actually remember too (which is a good thing for samf). i never knew all that shit about the companies watering down their stuff to sell it to the chinese.
and fez, we still love you :) *sigh* genius just isnt always appreciated in its lifetime......
(was it alec who didnt like it? he seems much more meaner than stian anyway but shhhh i didnt say that...)

Dr_Steve - August 11, 2005 04:55 AM (GMT)
so I was in uni on tuesday night, and there were no craccums in the fuxking boxes.

grrrrr

That is in fact quite far from the truth. Alec gets quite stressed, so he can get a bit anxious and seem like he's mean but he's actually a real sweetie! Stian on the other hand is quite a bitch! But delightful none the less!

Toby Turner - August 11, 2005 09:15 AM (GMT)
part not white! i havent seen you since we robbed that train in gore! what did you do with all the lobsters?

have you really given up writing fatso?

samf - August 11, 2005 10:30 AM (GMT)

My pet Munchymart satire missed the World Affairs issue and now I don't think it'll get run, which I still feel quite shitty about. But not everything is a masterpiece, and it hurts teh ego to not have an article published, so it happens.

Here's my guess Fez: maybe the hockey article wasn't that well-written or didn't fit the format of the issue, or whatever. They still need contributors, so they probably haven't been blunt about not running your piece because they don't want you to get pissed off and stop writing articles... So re-edit your piece, or write something new, but keep going.

Fez - August 11, 2005 11:07 AM (GMT)
yeah I have an idea for something based on the recent American radio-taggin news, but itll make me sound all serious and tobyishh.

samf - August 11, 2005 11:18 AM (GMT)

Just go for it! I just heard about that Chinese internet thing from someone and suggested an article to the editors while I handed in some book reviews. So they're open to suggestions.

Anyway I'm sure you could balance the 'tobyish' hard news stuff with a sense of humour. Just try and channel Ryan and you'll be in the right territory. :)

PS: Ryan, you have my vote for editor based on this year's GAN alone. L3g3nd.

Look in the newest PC world, on the back page is an article about some dude in NZ who has radio chipped himself, maybe yuo could interview him or something, perhaps a resurfacing of Geek Weekly?

samf - August 12, 2005 06:37 AM (GMT)

Who wrote the $1000 student PC article? That was great. We need more stuff like that, and since you're a fount of knowledge, Fez...

Fez - August 12, 2005 08:04 AM (GMT)
That was Gladwrap, yeah I thought it was good too.

Id let the dude take over the column, but he never gets back to me.

maniacnymph - August 12, 2005 08:46 AM (GMT)
nnnnno shedevil stians a sweetie, he put up with being filmed for 3 days, whereas alec lapsed into 'scary eye mode' (as jess says) after a wee while......

btw, craccum photopage........??? ooooooh.

samf - August 12, 2005 10:01 AM (GMT)

Stian's great. The signs at the door about him being the 'dangerous' one are typical Craccum hyperbole.

SheDevil - August 15, 2005 02:58 AM (GMT)
They're just as dangerous as eachother. Stian comes across all innocent but just you wait, get on his bad side and he snaps! Believe me, i spend all week with them, i know what they're like! Alec is just one of those types of people that to others who don't know him he might seem a little wierd, perhaps elitist and condescending but he's far from it. They're both really nice, just don't catch them on a bad day. It's very stressful editing Craccum.

Fez - August 15, 2005 06:47 AM (GMT)
Well I for one thought that "Im Gay" article was pretty boring and pointless

kiwi_hockey_guy - August 15, 2005 09:44 PM (GMT)
I did enjoy reading Alec's thing on Auckland Uni students....

maniacnymph - August 16, 2005 03:45 AM (GMT)
hockeyguy, your avatar is so cute
i havent read all this weeks issue yet, it seemed a tad repetitive, but some of it made for good reading.....*prepares for beating*

SheDevil - August 16, 2005 03:58 AM (GMT)
Beating from who? Not me i hope, i don't care if anyone thinks it's shit! Everyone is entitled to their opinions, and besides, i haven't actually read it yet! :P

Hannoir - August 23, 2005 05:25 AM (GMT)
The slumbering junkies article was perfect revision for my politics 231 test :-D

Happy Ahmed - August 23, 2005 06:37 AM (GMT)
Everyone should take the opportunity to complain about my column.

Steveo - August 23, 2005 06:53 AM (GMT)
Fuck it was the best piece in the whole mag, I really liked it and thought it was the best so far this year Ahmed, kudos to you

Happy Ahmed - August 23, 2005 06:56 AM (GMT)
Jesus, really?

I thought it was puerile and lacking direction. It's just a few pieces that I wrote when I was really pissed that I linked together with dodgy links.

Steveo - August 23, 2005 07:34 AM (GMT)
I thought so anyway, but it doesnt take much to impress me :P

Senor - August 23, 2005 08:41 AM (GMT)
haha direction? but it was suitably random! i enjoid it fully :) was the warning above it bout urs? was especially loving the blackened, dragging uterus, wiked mental image from that one.

Why dont you just get down on your knees right now and start going at him?

Oh yeh and on another note, good to see Nicholas back writing for craccum. :hmm:

Steveo - August 24, 2005 02:34 AM (GMT)
Lol, it doesnt mean that i thought any of the others were any good ;)

Fez - September 26, 2005 01:23 AM (GMT)
This weeks theme:

I guess it would be awfully bad timing to do my "God? LOL" chalk advertising

samf - September 26, 2005 08:41 AM (GMT)

Perfect timing, I would have thought.

SheDevil - October 4, 2005 03:20 AM (GMT)
For the first time ever i actually read Craccum cover to cover. Twas good, i think this weeks issue is one of their better ones. That article "Everything that is wrong with Craccum this year" was fucking fantastically funny! Read it. And the cover was one of my favourites. Also read the Tony Hawk article, tis also good.

Ok, so enough sugar induced ramblings from me.

Steveo - October 4, 2005 03:50 AM (GMT)
I thought this week was fantastic too! Its the best in a while
