yea I was thinking of moving out, but the only reason I would do so was if I lived REALLY close to town, I guess Mt Eden is pretty close but then theres the money issue.

Moving out is the biggest step anyone will make in the first couple of decades of their life. It always intrigues me how different the 18-25 year old populations are when you compare two different student attitudes in say NZ and England.
In England people leave home to go to University. Mostly they move into Uni provided student accomadation but thats just for the first year. After that they enter the joyous world of corrupt landlords, having to learn to cook, wondering whether the black mould growing in your bathroom is the one you've heard is pumping toxic spores into your breathing space and generally finding yourself with fuck all money. Plus you have to learn to live with other people and all their personal habits.
In New Zealand and weirdly Scotland, students tend to go to their local University and a lot continue to live at home with the parents. Its very understandable, but I do feel that often people then have to learn the harsh realities (plus the joyous freedom) of not living at home.
Take the plunge Fez. Its well worth the risk

Living at home is far too convenient for me atm. My dads work is just a walk up the road from mine, so I have an easy (though not as short as I'd like) commute there and back every day. In a few months I'll start considering moving closer to work (which is
here, if anyone looking for a flatmate has a flat nearby), I'm losing about an hour of my life every day because of the commute.
But then again, I am somewhat lazy, so this is probably all just talk.
templar34 - July 20, 2005 01:55 AM (GMT)
Yeah, I live down on High St, which is kinda convenient, although it's miniscule.
maniacnymph - July 20, 2005 02:53 AM (GMT)
as long as you have an imagination, i cant bring myself to yet count commuting time as time wasted. i myself relish the chance to sit and do nothing but daydream for 40 minutes (coz obviously i dont do enough of that at home) in peak hour traffic, and spending an hour waiting for buses. so peaceful.....
the oob - July 20, 2005 03:09 AM (GMT)
I daydream too much as it is, especially at work :(.

*sigh* I really wish I had money. Instead of fairy dust.

Yeliah - July 20, 2005 08:03 AM (GMT)
Unless. Fairy dust could work. I could throw it into the eyes of both the psychotic killer guy and the German-obsessed guy so that they would not be able to see and thus not kill me/think I'm German. Then, the dust could be inter-mingled with the chux to make MAGICAL nunchucks.
Oh yeah.
Steveo - July 20, 2005 08:33 AM (GMT)
Damn, if only i'd thought of that!
kiwi_hockey_guy - July 21, 2005 05:38 AM (GMT)

This bowl of cashew nuts has served as a reminder of why living at home is good, my mum bulk buys them in the states.
Hauser - July 21, 2005 06:18 AM (GMT)
I'd like to, but considering I am going broke living at home, I don't necessarily think it would be a good idea.

The US has Costco. Most of you don't know what that is, but suffice to say it's a place where you can buy a fuckload of stuff for very little money, and it's not evil like Walmart.
Costco = mucho cashew nuts.

Jamz - July 23, 2005 04:26 PM (GMT)
yeh downside is we are 2 stages from the uni.
upside is i found that our bag of potatoes, which were obviously long forgotten have sprouted and become a small ecosystem inhabiting the lower section of our cupboards. sweet.

Costco Rulz!
Seriously. EVERYTHING there is cheap and comes in bulk. There is nothing bad about that place.
Well I guess that movie where Robin Williams plays a pyscho camera developer always reminded me of the local costco my host family used to frequent in Canada but thats about it.
kiwi_hockey_guy - July 24, 2005 11:27 AM (GMT)
Steveo........... investments are over-rated! I work in a bank so dont question me.........
you are just a pawn to us big banking power houses!
Steveo - July 25, 2005 01:33 AM (GMT)
Who said bank investments :P
Hauser - July 25, 2005 02:01 AM (GMT)
Go for the US or Australia. No taxes on both dividends and capital gains from NZ, and both are going to boom with the changes to the Chinese currency.
the oob - July 26, 2005 05:10 AM (GMT)
When the transfer from my Nigerian benefactors comes though I'll be filthy stinking rich.
