i would like a giant microwave that can fit people inside it, so i can cook them with much greater ease than spitroasting them. oh, and it has to be self-cleaning, and also be a timemachine. there we go. teh ultimate in home-entertainment.

I'm going for the 360. It sounds like it has better architecture and performance than the PS3 and Nintendo don't seem to know what the hell they're doing with the Revolution.

I'll stick with saving for an extra Gb of RAM and an x850.

Can't play Battlefield 2 on a console*, fuck that shit.

* at least not now, and not without paying a subscription.

Oh ye of little faith. Playstation for life.

Playstation definitely. This computer will be dying in a few months, and all that RAM you invest in will burn Templar!

El Matador - July 4, 2005 11:59 PM (GMT)
PLaystation for teh 3x Backwards compatability ( + old DVDs as well)

When a computer dies, you can just replace the dead part. When a console dies, the whole thing is useless (with the possible exception of hard drives).

:D you can't beat the PC. Consoles are also much more specific. Whilst they may be better in their specific area, evolution has shown that jack-of-all-trades endure far longer than specialists.

Consoles are beginning to become a bit less specific though, when you look at their media capabilities they're aiming not to just be for games, but to replace all of your media devices.

Jack of all Trades are good and devices like the PC will always have their uses, but they're also inefficient.

According to Wikipedia:
QUOTE
The term personal computer or PC is generally a microcomputer intended to be used by one person at a time, and suitable for general purpose tasks such as word processing, programming, or game play, usually used to run purchased or other software not written by the user.

You show me a console that can be used as a word processor, and I'll tell you it's a PC :P

ummmm... yeah? so?

I never claimed that Consoles would become general purpose like a PC, just that they are branching out from games to become media centers.

And from what I've seen they aren't doing a half-arsed job of it (although I think DRM issues are still becoming a factor)

Lol we need to get out more.

I did kinda misinterpret your point. Ineffieciency isn't always bad too. look at your keyboard: that's inefficient on purpose. The QWERTY keyboard was designed to slow typists down so that typewriters wouldn't jam.

Steveo - July 5, 2005 01:10 AM (GMT)
Nintendo is where it's at. But im bias as I love the Resident Evil series...

mmhmm, still when you compare the amount of effort a noobie has to go through to get some programs to work on their PC (especially when games don't work or you need new drivers for you hardware) and the amount of effort programmers have to go through to ensure their programs will work on every possible platform configuration. It's no wonder that Consoles are popular.

Thanks to my xBox I can play Doom 3 and soon Half Life 2, which I can't do on my PC, and IIRC the xBox specs aren't much better than my PC's. That's optimization.

From what I hear Nintendo still hasn't finalised their controllers and they aren't supporting HDTV at all, They're being very secretive really. Admittidly that's not much of an issue at the moment as HDTV's are still a minority but as HDTV enters the market more, and considering the development time between consoles, Nintendo is going to feel that loss.
