Title: Media talking about media

liz_shaw - March 25, 2005 02:51 AM (GMT)
It is quite annoying that the media tlaks about the other various forms of media.

This week the main focus has been on the 7pm current events shows.

I actually get a little bit tired of magazines being flooded with celebrity news, isn't there real news to talk about.

Also I do not like the way the media villianise various people.

the oob - March 25, 2005 05:40 AM (GMT)
You don't seem to like anything.

I like that.

liz_shaw - March 25, 2005 06:16 AM (GMT)
nah I do like things, I like the way that the wanaka traders are trading on good friday.

It is paper plus in wanaka opens.

They are claiming that it goes against the bill of rights.

I actually do think that shops should open on good friday.

I mean hospitals still operate, call centres still operate, resturaunts and cafes do so theoretically shops should be allowed to as well.

Talk about having 3 Current affair proggis at the same time on three different channels..... oh man. thank God i usually dont get home at that time.

liz_shaw - March 25, 2005 09:21 AM (GMT)
I think its brilliant. it gives people choice of what current events to follow, they all cover differne thtings.

I think Prime and Paul Holmes are suffering a case of leaky holmes syndrome Copyright Liz Shaw 25/03/2005

i wanted Campbell to be on tonight so I could watch it but sadly it was not meaning I can't watch it until next Thursday but one of my friends is on it on Monday. I will tape shortland street (though crap at the mo) as I am working.

Steveo - March 25, 2005 09:54 AM (GMT)
i worked today, it was dead just got the typical

"oh, are you open?" calls :frustrated:

liz_shaw - March 25, 2005 10:32 AM (GMT)
I don't have work until Monday which means I have plenty of time to work on uni assignments and to quote Bill Ralston, yawn yawn yawn yawn yawn. Fortunately I have done one of 4.

I thought at least Supermarkets would be open on Friday BUT NO!

Had to go get food from other sources

liz_shaw - March 26, 2005 01:41 AM (GMT)
supermarkets should have been open. I had to do the same thing and its annoying and more expensive.

The majority of people aren't relgious anyway these days.

Sarey - March 26, 2005 03:58 AM (GMT)
I actually don't mind the media talking about itself. Eating Media Lunch was brilliant. Definitely hanging out for when that comes back on.

liz_shaw - March 26, 2005 04:16 AM (GMT)
that is very true Sarey about Eating Media Lunch, some parts were better than others though.

It just seems that there would be other news out there to talk about rather than the other mediums.

Sarey - March 26, 2005 08:51 AM (GMT)
You would think so, but a lot of the coverage that has been on lately are updates on how news stories have progressed. Take the Willie Terpstra story. Or the ongoing goings on in the middle east.

liz_shaw - March 26, 2005 09:32 AM (GMT)
That is very true, very very true. It is quite good thugh that we get to know what is happening with each story.

Considering you normally rather watch Shortland Street :-)

liz_shaw - March 27, 2005 03:31 AM (GMT)
Yeah but I think that Shortland Street is crap at the moment.

deprecated() - March 27, 2005 03:55 AM (GMT)
lmao... i wouldn't know what it's about at all.

liz_shaw - March 27, 2005 06:06 AM (GMT)
well norman is dying, he has a tumor. ian, Maia's father is also dying, he has motor nurone disease, the hospital's emergency department is being shut down, robyn stokes is being a lying kaniving cow and is taking advantag of mark weston, shannon is now pregnant, maia wants a baby, jake and claire ended up hitting this girl with their car and now he is spending a lot of time with her.

deprecated() - March 27, 2005 07:56 AM (GMT)
unhm

deprecated() - March 27, 2005 07:57 AM (GMT)
how would you compare it with "Home & Away" ??

liz_shaw - March 27, 2005 11:16 AM (GMT)
ooh that is a very interesting question actually.

Well its hard to, one is set in a hospital and one is set in a beachside town where most of the kids are from foster homes or have had some other problems.

I would say they are both better than Neighbours, neighbours was good back in 1994 when there were all the good characters.

Home and Away has also gone down hill since the time that Shannon, Vinnie, Jack, Pippa, Selina, Dani, Jade, Shane, Dodge, Angel, Ailsa, Jude, Dylan, Shauna, Fisher and the Sutherlands left.

Shortland Street has gone down hill two with repetitive story lines, bad writing, the demise of several good characters such as Stuart, Rachel, Nick, Waverley, Kirsty, Lionel, Dominic, Ellen, Minnie, Carla, Micheal and another favourite character of mine was Carmen and I did like Guy.

I think there are too many new characters on both shows so they have lost that old element to the show.

I read an article about Claire Chitham (this makes me sound like a geek that I do so much reading but I assure you I never read books other than text books to find cool quotes) and it said that the writers had run out of storylines for Nick and Waverley. This is fitting with the fact that there are repetitive storylines so I think they need to bring in some new writers to get the job done. the same applies to Home and Away.

The shows having said that go through peaks where they are exciting eg//Dominic and his murderer storyline, that was gripping.

Home and Aways most gripping storyline at the moment would be the return of Kane's father who saved Hayley's life from the fire at the palace. The return of Vinnie is also an excellent storyline, he hasn't returned yet but he is alive and still in love with leah.

Bottom line, bring back the old writers of both shows.

cynicalbrat - March 31, 2005 02:05 AM (GMT)
Oh I loved neighbours for awhile I was watching it all the time .... then I sort of lost interest. I usually only watch the soaps for the lesbian storyline but then develop an unhealthy addiction to the lives of the rest of the characters. Like that evil manipulative Izzy, hah and she lost her baby which wasn't the doc's.
I digress, from what I've seen of old shorty it's not too bad, it's not gripping my interest and that strange arty ad for the boy and the bratty girl (who my mate would have been better as if she'd gotten the part) is just strange and always leaves me with this expectaion of 'Calvin Klien' to flash across the screen.
As for the 3 current events shows, it's too much I say, Holmes suffers because it's not on after the news I think most people will just not bother to change the channel or turn off the tv after the news. I kinda wish the simpsons was still on at 7.

liz_shaw - March 31, 2005 02:18 AM (GMT)
yay you just reminded me that I can watch campbell tonight for th efirst time, and tape shorters.

I am so fucked off at shorters at the moment, sometimes I want to kill the characters. Robyn should die, I am glad that she got home invaded for real last night and chris and tonis/

I can't stand the acting though on shortland street, it is really bad but they get the jobs because they "have the right looks", well let me tell you, I can act well an I aint ugly but according to them would have the "wrong look".

Actors should be judged on acting, not appearance. The new characters are shocking as well, the actual characters, like Maia's sister and that evil bitch from the DHB.

Dr_Steve - March 31, 2005 07:05 AM (GMT)
Comparing Shortland Street to Hame and Away would be a good topic for Campbell Live

liz_shaw - April 1, 2005 03:22 AM (GMT)
I'm sure you're only joking but campbell has better things to talk about and more important things to talk about than two soaps that most of the population don't even watch.

dragonorchid - April 3, 2005 10:00 AM (GMT)
yeah, I watch neither.

Dr_Steve - April 3, 2005 11:28 AM (GMT)
well I've watched bits of Campbell Live and Close Up at 7, and while Close Up was doing a piece on road deaths, Campbell was doing a survey on people's sex lives, and interviewing that Rove dude from Australia (and saying "Whaka" on tv).

Campbell could be just a bit less tabloid, but then I guess he'd just be a clone of Close Up, and he wouldn't get his audience share...

liz_shaw - April 3, 2005 11:47 AM (GMT)
TV3 targets a younger audience, 18 - 45 in general I would say. Based on this Campbell has to fit in with that. This is the reason for his tabloid articles, people of different ages have different needs and habits.

He did, on Friday night run a story regarding Tui, regarding the air base on Stewart Island etc. I don't know what else was on the show as I didn't see the first half.

In general, I think Campbell has a wide variety of topic areas covered rather than just the typical politics or typical human interest.

This is probably why he is rating so highly at this stage.

the guys behind the tui campaigns. If you want to potentially have your idea on a tui billboard then go to http://tv3.co.nz and click on the campbell link.

or you could go to the Tui website, which i assume is www.tui.co.nz because they've been running the billboard thing for quite awhile now. People I knew were submitting idea's last year.
