The tvnz website has stated in its news that mobile phones are now subjected to getting viruses.
The virus is spread through text messaging, picture messaging and sound messaging. It duplicates itself by sending itself to everyone on the mobile phone's contact list. The battery is evetually drained.
The virus has been found in 16 countries in just 6 months. The virus was first found in Russia.

yeah heard about this a while ago
kinda sad :(

Okay, does this mean that whoever created the virus has a programme in their cellphone that can access people's numbers?
This is as bad at that msn virus; if not worse because cellphones are more necessary than msn.

The most likely effect of the virus would be not only to drain people batteries, but also use all their credit on prepays, and rack up huge bills on poor poeple on contract phones.

that would be a huge problem for mobile phone providers the world over as it woudl cost them a huge amount and there would also be no way of proving whether or not the person was telling the truth.
Does this mean that anti virus software will have to be set up for mobile phones and how would you get it or would you be required to get a new sim card. What if your network doesn't use sim cards???
How would the software be distributed? Would it be in the form of a text message. Or would there be software developed to go on every sim card, similar to nortons anti virus?
In a way the virus creator has done those who are involved in technology a favour because there will now be jobs cropping up in getting rid of mobile phone viruses.
it will also take the heat off computer viruses.
however, it is also a dangerous game. I mean say you are walking in the street and your phone has a virus so that the battery is flat and someone tries to attack you, it would disable your ability to seek help. Would the virus creator thus be guilty of manslaughter shoudl they be found and would they even be involved in the case?
If this happens I would like to see that the virus creator was punished.
Mobile phones are an essential item in today's society and this is really really fucked that someone would create a virus that disable's the necessity of mobile phones. They have obviously not thought about the large repurcussions of their actions.

Lets put it this way.
Virus writers / hackers are mearly exposing the weakness of the System. They are defying odds, breaking the system.
Yes it is wrong but there is so much that can be learned from them.

Yes that is true but it is incredibly wrong and potentially dangerous in the case of mobile phones.
