Description: wicked computer generated images

here (warning: this will rape, kill, and piss all over the corpse of your net account).
You learn how to do this in CS 372 (computer graphics) if anyone's thinking about it. Except, your stuff won't be nearly as good.
Here's the scene I made for 372 for comparison.
Candyland
Pretty lame... especially when you consider
this was made by a seven year old girl.

Please explain to any non-cs372 noobs or non-ray-tracing enthusiasts the concept of ray tracing :D

Okay, for those not in the know ray-tracing is basically creating photorealistic scenes by tracing individual light rays from the light source to the viewers eye (actually the other way around, it's more efficient)
The theory is simple, the basic math behind light is simple, but the sheer number of lightrays and the paths they can take means it takes fucking forever to do one scene.

If anyone has a decent file host, I've got a rar file of 15 of these (the ones with the right dimensions) for use as wallpaper.

I'll post some of the renders i've done for architecture when I get back there. I am awesome.

How about a POVray competition for the semester break guys?
I downloaded it last night, and made my first render. It doesn't seem to be too hard to learn how to use it. I figure there will be at least a couple of people who would want to learn povray/already know it.

c'mon guys. It seems to be quite easy to make abstracts at least.
Heres what I was able to come up with after learning for an hour:

so it should probably take you guys about the same amount of time to learn the basics like me, and that's all you really need to make decent images.

There is a difference between using PovRay and actually rendering the dmmn thing. I will upload my Asgnmnt4.. if I can find it.
Any one here tried Maya? Now that thing rocks.

I downloaded maya off kazaa back when it was still good. I don't think I actually installed it though. I hait positioning things in 3D with the mouse, which is why I think povray might be better.

Programming is my job now, which means all the fun has been sucked out of it.
