Title: Rate The Latest Movie Youve Seen

Last night, I watched this action thriller. Unlike others in its genre, this one is rather thought provoking. 'Enemy of the State' deserves a god 9.2/10 from me due to the having an intriguing and workable plot as well as good action. Surprisingly enough, this is probably the only good film starring Will Smith. Best of all, 'Enemy of the State' actually pauses the action for parts of dialogue that reveals more of the conspiracy, this however continues the suspense of the film. Overall, the best part was the very surprising ending, both parties which opposed Smith's character were obsessed over a video tape.

I don't need to fucking understand your cravings for penises.

Sounds like Adolf has a bad case of penis envy.

Synopsis - January 22, 2006 09:23 AM (GMT)
Good Night, and Good luck.

Directed by George Clooney, this film takes us back to 1953. America is gripped by the fear of "OMG COMMIES!!!" and exploiting this fear is Senator McCarthy, using it springboard himself into power. Opposing him is Ed Murrow, presenter at CBS, who attacks and derides McCarthy's fearmongering tactics. This was one of the first examples of modern media being used as a force of political change.
Filmed in black and White and using news footage from the era, this film does an excellent job of re-enacting the battle between McCarthy and Murrow.
As the film is a re-enactment of history the plot isn't particularly deep or involved. There's no unexpected plot twists, relationship dramas or massive character development. What there is is some damned good acting, sprinkled with pieces of humour and a jazzy soundtrack, as well as some morals and a history lesson.

I give it :goldstar::goldstar::goldstar::goldstar::goldstar::goldstar::goldstar::goldstar::goldstar::goldstar: :nostar: and would eagerly see it again.

I was bored and thought that it was just going to be another shitty Will Smith movie but it turned out to be brilliant. I like plots that actually have twists that are unpredictable. My the time we have kids, I bet Hollywood would do a remake of that film.

C'mon! With a title like that, it's got to be made fun on. :iwentthere:

Last night I watched Caligula... I really didn't know what I was getting in for, and I can't honestly reccommend this to anyone. Unless you like:
- Incest between Caligula and his sister
- Caligula forcing his fist up another guy's rectum
- Men masturbating and fellating each other
- A woman urinating on a dead guy
- I'm fairly sure there was also at least two castrations

There's probably more but I can't think of it. I really don't think people should see this movie. It's just NOT COOL. On the back cover of the cassette it says something like "this movie will make you question whether it is art or obscenity" - well, call me close-minded, but I didn't think it was particularly arty.

the oob - January 24, 2006 10:32 AM (GMT)
Haha Caligula is classic.

It's not perversion, it's the Roman Empire!

To be quite honest with you, Hitler, penises are actually one of the ugliest things I think I've ever seen. So envy? No. No thank you. Feminazi? Sure; why not if itmeans I get to kick your ass.

Touche, Yels.

The Roman Empire, Oob? Well, I'm sure that Caligula was a bit of a nutjob, true, but according to his wikipedia article which I perused after watching that artistic masterpiece, much of the movie was surmised, contrived or based on the writings of random Roman dudes who may have just been attempting to discredit him.

Also, they left out the pedophilia, which was supposed to be fairly prevalent in Roman times.

Miss_Illusioned - January 25, 2006 10:23 AM (GMT)
I think you are confusing that with pederasty... as far as I learnt they weren't into peodophilia.

Tony Montana - January 25, 2006 10:32 AM (GMT)
'They' may not have been, but some individuals certainly were, in the same way that the Catholic Church is not into paedophilia, yet some individuals are unable to restrain themselves. 'You fuck small boys' was a pretty good insult back then, as it is now. In attempting to discredit Octavian's claim to Caesar's mantle, Mark Antony claimed that he and Caesar were gay lovers, and that Caesar was not thinking strait when he named Octavian his heir. That's a damned lie, cuz Caesar would never do such a thing.

HAIL CAESAR!

Miss_Illusioned - January 25, 2006 10:40 AM (GMT)
Ahhh that is very true. I misread that as all Romans were into peodophilia.

Yeah, after they murdered Caligula and set up Claudius on the throne, the Praetorian Cohorts were keen to come off as liberators and not as regicides. The Praetorians could dispatch emperors at will, so they had to be kept happy. Along with paying large amounts of money to the Praetorians to thank them for the stellar job they did on Caligula, Claudius leaned on the historians of the day and made them write a history in which he and his Praetorian guard come out smelling like roses.

Dr_Steve - January 25, 2006 10:58 AM (GMT)
yeah that kind of crap is why we don't really know what went on in the Roman empire.

stupid political historians.

Went to see Munich last night. Eric Bana is quite possibly one of the best fucking actors around at the moment. It took a while to get off the ground, but it had a great sort of presence. You could feel this guy's pain. At the beginning it seemed to be preeetttty pro-Israel, but there's a scene in it in which Bana's character and a Palestinian talk political differences without realising who each other are. It ran a little too long, too - around three hours - but all in all, it's worth a watch. Especially if you've studied anything to do with Israel/Palestine/Munich Olympics Hostage Massacre or are just interested in that sort of arena.

7.895467/10.

Fucking awesome. Robert DeNiro is the master theif and Al Pacino is the cop who must catch him. My two favourite actors of all time face off and kick some ass with m4s.
9/10.

Archie McRiff - February 9, 2006 02:50 AM (GMT)
Saw King Kong. It wasn't bad. Was a bit long though (just over 3 hours). I hadn't seen the originals or any of the remakes, so it was all new for me, although I pretty much knew about the Empire State Building scene. According to the Wikipedia article, PJ made quite a few hidden references to the original and 70s remake, so people who have seen those may enjoy trying to spot them.

yes, this movie was done awesomely, the tone of the movie follows the guy's own outlook so that its quite pro-Israel at the beginning and becomes much less so as he becomes disillusioned with what his government are making him do. The shift is done so well you don't even notice its happening

awesome.

I just saw one of the best films ever made!!!!!!!! I just finished watching 'Der Untergang' on DVD (it costed me $4.00 for an overnight hire) and it was absolutely brilliant, the plot (or should I say, history) was compelling, the acting was supurb and the portrayal of the last fews days of Hitler's life was very real. Bruno Ganz who played Hitler looked exactly like the Fuhrer (and that's not a compliment). The best thing about a German made movie on WWII is that factual accuracy will be a key point.

There you have it, I've never rated a film this highly in my life before and there's no doubt it deserves a big 10 out off 10!!!!!!!

*Resists the urge to throw a Nazi salute in excitement.*

Mr Lanky Bobs - February 18, 2006 11:45 PM (GMT)
family guy movie.

meh, it was like all tv show movies, half an hour of entertainment dragged out over an hour and a half. but hey it had stewie getting drunk with brian so im not complaining.

7/10
