Title: Rate The Latest Movie Youve Seen

Fez - March 21, 2005 04:39 AM (GMT)
Seen a good movie lately? (or a shit one for that matter)

Let your fellow student population know of any potential dissapointments they may experience due to an overhyped pile of hollywood excrement or let others discover that unknown art film that changed the way you view life.

Rate It: ?/10

Short Description: (no spoilers please)

Give your thoughts on it:

Constantine:

7/10

Keuanu Reeves playing the anti hero, anti smoking, anti 3 dimensional acting poster boy and her of this film.
Its a bit hard to write a blurb without giving too much away but in short, he can see "half-breed" devils and angels walking the gateway between heaven, earth and hell that is Los Angeles. Somehow a nazi relic is a key demonic power tool that would allow the devils son to take over the earth and he must help a detective with a mysteriosly dead sister stop it.

I thought it was ok, wouldnt reccomend it to anyone who is expecting this awesome matrix-esque movie that will blow your mind, its kinda in the "Blade" era of supernatural/goth/demonology clique of hollywood.

I've seen a couple few cool movies this year, Flight of the Phoenix, Oceans 12 and Spooked. They are all pretty average.

FLIGHT OF THE PHOENIX
Okay basically this film takes place in the dessert after a plane crash, the survivors must then get along with eachother until they are rescued. There is a token female, a token arab and the rest of the cast are white males. They end up losing a couple of their crew and they build a plane. THe ending is dissappointing because it just ends suddenly and it ends in such a poor way, that is to say the whole film is action and then the ending isn't and it just doesn't fit in with the rest of the film. 5/10

OCEANS TWELVE
Very cool stunts in this film with a guest appearance from Julia Roberts. We all know that they will go to jail and then they will get out. This takes the surprise away from the film. It ends happily. It is a lot better than I actually expected though and is quite different to Oceans eleven, there are several time skips in this film and the storyline is very well done, there could also be an oceans thirteen or if that is too unlucky then an oceans fourteen. 6/10

SPOOKED
This is a kiwi film and is about a guy who ends up finding these disks that belong to a bank when he buys some computers. He then ends up on this crusade againt the authorities because he has valuable information that he shouldn't have. In the process he ends up going mad, one could argue that he becomes schitzophrenic, he definitely suffers delusions. He dies at the end of the film and so does his room mate. THe story is narrated from beyond the grave. The ending is quite cool and it is not a happy ending, they all died because they found these disks. 8/10

I've been seeing a lot of crap movies lately.

Oceans 12: crap.
Constantine: crap.
Closer: crap, except for one obvious redeeming feature.
Somersault: exceedingly crap.

Unfortunately the last movie I saw was - du du dunn - Spongebob. Yes spongebob. But I do protest that it wan't my fault, the stupid ushery person refused to let my friends into Blade 3 because she had no ID. I hate ushers, don't you?

Anyway, if you like insane randomness with almost no plotline, then Spongebob is the movie for you. Now I myself have been known to settle down in front of the tv for a good dose of insanity, but frankly I had expected more.

liz_shaw - March 28, 2005 10:33 AM (GMT)
I wouldn't, I can't imagine anything more boring than spongebob, in terms of movies.

Give me a horror or a journo movie any day.

I did see a life or something like it last night on tele and man was it a brilliatnly philosophical and insightful movie, the character played by Jolie was awesome, reminded me of myself.

AC la - April 1, 2005 11:45 AM (GMT)
Constantine: 4/10
First movie of this kind I'd say. Maybe it's because I didn't understand this movie at all, but it's insanely boring. The only cool thing about this movie is that the director's imagination of Hell is quite well done. But other than that, if I was to watch this movie by myself, I would have definitely fallen asleep, as it was absolutely *not* action packed. The action scenes you see on the trailer is all you'll get in the full movie. And I think Keuanu Reeves was still stuck in "Matrix mode".
I guess this is the "you either really like it, or really hate it" kind of movie.

Saw: 9/10
Now.. This is a very well done movie, one of the best horror/thriller movies I've ever seen. It was advertised as a horror, but I'd say it is more of a gruesome thriller. This movie is very bloody and full of surprises. I better not say any spoilers, but go and see this movie, it's definitely worth it. Highly recommended movie!

Spongebob Squarepants: 6/10
Compared to the TV show, this movie is a lot more action packed I would say. Sponge bob and his companion *forgot the name* -_- (starfish) goes on a quest to retrieve the King's crown. On the way they met some *interesting* characters. This is one of the most random movies ever made. Hell, I'm random enough and even I find this movie *too* random at times. It's a good laugh in the first half-hour, but you sort of get tired of laughing after a while and there are 1 or 2 lame jokes in there. The ending? Predictable of course, as the focus of the movie was never the plot. Recommended movie to see if you are bored.

The Grudge (American version): 5/10
As usual, another American version of a Japanese horror movie. I have watched both versions now and, yeah, they are indeed identical. Maybe it's because I already know what was going to happen in the movie, I found it to be tad boring. The Grudge talks about, like any other horror movies, the story of a haunted house (how inventive!). However, this movie is kind of confusing and requires a bit of thinking (or in my case, online researching) to work out what was happening. Sarah Michelle Galler certainly isnt the best actor out there in my opinion, and certainly not suited for a role in this kind of movie, but that's for you to decide.

Shaun of the Dead is awesome. just saw it, give it a 9/10 because the bloody subtitles wouldnt turn off, and i dont liek widescreen formatted movies, the black areas get disconcerting. gorgeous at the end, couldnt have used 'you my best friend' by queen to better. more touching effect. someone said that about 'dont stop me now', and i agree with that too....just.....see it!!!

Man on Fire : 8/10

I should have seen it in cinema.

maniacnymph - April 13, 2005 11:19 AM (GMT)
i went to the ring 2. hmmm. does anyone else have the 'warn 0%' thing added onto the bottom of their name?

anyway, what i *did* see of the ring 2, i wasnt impressed with. ah well the icecream was good.

Zoot - April 14, 2005 08:18 AM (GMT)
Please do not let Hollywood put you off the Constantine comics (called "Hellblazer"), as they are actually excellent. Similarly, don't let Hollywood put you off other excellent comics: From Hell, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, and (if the movie sucks) Sin City.

Anyway, a few nights back I saw the Anchorman DVD commentary. Best. Commentary. Ever.

Aaron_von_Cock - April 14, 2005 09:10 AM (GMT)
Last movie I saw? I'll give it 7/10

Fez - April 17, 2005 04:06 AM (GMT)
Without A Paddle:

Very dissapointing, I was kind of expecting more, Mathew Lilliard is one of my favourite actors and I like Seth Green too. But alas the dialogue was worse than George Lucas could have written and the storyline didnt go much better.

5/10

The Terminal:

A pleasant surprise, I rented it thinking "oh great a movie about a guy being stuck in an airport, how much fun is THIS going to be" But it was a frickin good movie, one of Tom Hanks best performances (I shit you not) and not at all typical hollywood trash.

8.5/10

Zoot, I'm eager to see "Sin City" cuz it's directed by Robert Rodriguez. Should be interesting.

Has anyone seen Napolean Dynamite? Man thats funny.

AC la - May 26, 2005 08:56 AM (GMT)
Saw Kingdom of Heaven on Wednesday.

Pretty much a straight copy of "King Arthur". Very generic movie. Orlando Bloom looked fat in the movie (not that I'm into him or anything). Not many good movie on right now :S Maybe the interpreter will be good :P

templar34 - May 26, 2005 09:02 AM (GMT)
Star Wars Episode Three.... 42/10. Nuff said.

Short description: Um. The story that needed to be told blahblahblah. If you seriously need this you must be doing Ancient history as a Major.

Has anyone else realised that Orlando Bloom can't do modern acting? If you look at what time period his acting roles are set in, the most recent is Pirates of the Carribean (1500-1600).

Toby Turner - May 26, 2005 09:04 AM (GMT)
Star wars = top entertainment movie of all time

saw fourth world war at the human rights film festival, hard to get a hold of probaby but hugely inspirational and emotional

saw napolean dynamite, and i want to learn that dance. hehe

Shaun of the Dead - 12/10

So worth it. So much humour, and the main character is just so slow at the start.

And it gives new meaning to Queen - Don't Stop Me Now.

kiwi_hockey_guy - June 9, 2005 05:56 AM (GMT)
Saw The Amityville Horror last wednesday and that was pretty choice.........

considering its based on a true story

Steveo - June 9, 2005 07:27 AM (GMT)
"Battlefield Earth"

Basic run-down, year 3000 earth is enslaved by aliens where scattered pockets live in fear of the "evil mosters" (aliens) John Travolta leads the aliens (very poorly) never see this film.

1/10 (gets 1 coz it had a reasonably ok chick in it)

Jaded Mandarin - June 9, 2005 01:27 PM (GMT)
"Once Upon A Time In Mexico" 2/10

Oh how it pained me to watch this film. It was so bad and the worst closing chapter [trilogy or not] that I have ever seen!

I love "El Mariachi" [the best of them] and "Desperado" was great too but what the hell was Rodriguez thinking with this? The story was bad news to begin with - no one wants to see Carolina dead - kidnapped and tortured, yeah but dead?! They already did that in the first film! Rodriguez tried too hard to keep to the formula of "El Mariachi" [down to the budget effects and unusual camera angles] that he didn't come up with anything new.

And what the hell was up with Johnny Depp?! Oh my, him and his character were crap. HE IS SO OVER RATED!

Saw Downfall last night, pretty bloody awesome (it's about the last day of the Nazis and their high command's emotional breakdown). Totally silent movie theatre afterwards, which I think showed it had quite an impact. I'd rate it 8.5/10

I've been wanting to see that one for a bit, but never quite been in the mood for Serious Historical Film just yet. Anyone gone to Batman Begins yet? Tuesday night is movie night for me (yay student discounts!).

samf - July 11, 2005 06:26 AM (GMT)

Saw Downfall. It's one hell of a powerful movie, even though I already knew the story of the Reich's final days. (it was a highly accurate movie, as well). I'd give it a 9/10 - but recommend that non-history buffs read Antony Beevor's "Berlin: the Downfall 1945" first, just to make it less confusing.

Steveo - July 18, 2005 11:11 PM (GMT)
Ok, I saw House Of Flying Daggers. Amazing movie (even though the subtitles got annoying) The fighting scenes were amazing without being over the top + the story was great.

9/10 only loses a mark as I felt it was a bit short and they did not fully tie up the ending (or is it me being dense and not indie-film wankerish enough?)

Saw it a couple of weeks ago, a bit of a departure from the Batman's of old, but still not a bad movie, a bit long too.

It was a tad confusing in that i think it was a prequel (correct me if i'm wrong!) and it has some homeless guy shooting Bruce's parents, i thought it was.....(was it?) the Joker?? Who knows......hot Christian Bale for the ladies and Katie Holmes for the boys.......7/10 :P
