Title: 5 Year Old Arrested

QUOTE
A 5-year-old girl was arrested, cuffed and put in back of a police cruiser after an outburst at school where she threw books and boxes, kicked a teacher in the shins, smashed a candy dish, hit an assistant principal in the stomach and drew on the walls.

That is sick that a five year old was arrested, shouldn't she have been sent to get counselling.

I would hate to go to school in that country.

I'm not sayig her behaviour was right but the article paints the picture that the police were instantly called, they shouldn't have been. Locking her in a room by herself would have been a better option than this, though that is also a bad thing to do.

The problem is that teachers are afraid to discipline students because if they do the parents will sue them to make a quick buck (thank you America).
So really they had no choice but to call someone else in to do the job for them.

then the simple answer to us outisders is to change the laws in the states. of course that would take such a long time to do.

What about all the other students though, do they not have rights?

So what do you exactly suggest that should do?

I suggest making a bill that states that teachers are allowed to take any action that is deemed reasonable to the average citizen, that is they are not allowed to get physically violent but they are allowed to lock the child in a room.

I would suggest teachers being trained in assertiveness so that they are not afraid to discipline children.

I would also suggest parents sitting down with teachers in formal meeting and discussing the growing rates of insolence in the hope that they can come to some form of agreement on the matter of discipline.
