| Indonesian prosecutors on Thursday demanded an Australian woman accused of smuggling drugs into the resort island of Bali be jailed for life, foregoing the penalty of death they could have sought. Beauty therapist Schapelle Corby, 27, from Australia's eastern Gold Coast, has been accused of smuggling 4.1kg of marijuana into Bali in 2004. The Australian government had pleaded with Indonesia not to seek the death penalty against Corby, whose case has attracted wide media attention in Australia at a time of improved relations with its majority Muslim neighbour. |
