Title: Athems and Politics
Adolf Chiang - February 16, 2006 09:14 AM (GMT)
Recently I've been thinking, if the god forsaken communists have the 'Internationale' as their anthem, perhaps the right-wing should also have an anthem or a piece of music that represents their spectrum.

This needs to be the tune, because it is awesome.

Care to tell me what that is? I'm downloading something else at the moment?
In my opinion, classical (orchestral) music should serve as the best representative of the right, as it is so conservative and intellectual.

I'll download it later only if its classical.
One possible candidate from my collection of mp3s include a rare orchestral arrangement (version) of Bach's infamous 'Toccata und Fugue'. Baroque, being originally an artistic movement that rose to counter the Reformation seems suitable, although the traditional left-right divisions date back a lot later and the music of the romantic era (highlighting on emotional expressions) or later would be suitable, if the emotions of patriotism, mobilization and victory are present in the piece.

I've just downloaded it and I've got no idea what it's called.
From the style, it appears to be American, written within the last 40 years and probably comes from the soundtrack of some action/war movie or game. It sure beats that lame shit that tries to imitate its American triumphantness from C&C Generals. If I'm the composer, I would have named it somewhere along the lines of 'Soaring Hawks'. Whenever I hear that piece, I can imagine a US armor column on the move. Oob, I can't believe your taste in music!

"Kill The Poor", by the Dead Kennedys, is the only choice.
Efficiency and progress is ours once more
Now that we have the neutron bomb
It’s nice and quick and clean and gets things done
Away with excess enemy
But no less value to property
No sense in war but perfect sense at home¡
The sun beams down on a brand new day
No more welfare tax to pay
Unsightly slums gone up in flashing light
Jobless millions whisked away
At last we have more room to play
All systems go to kill the poor tonight
Gonna
Kill kill kill kill kill the poor tonight
Behold the sparkle of champagne
The crime rate’s gone
Feel free again
O’ life’s a dream with you, Miss Lily White
Jane Fonda on the screen today
Convinced the liberals it’s okay
So let’s get dressed and dance away the night
While they
Kill kill kill kill kill the poor tonight

I'm doubtful that the band is actually right-winged. Besides, aren't representative of the right. Sorry Archie, Oob's choice is a lot more positive than yours.

No one likes us-I don't know why We may not be perfect, but heaven knows we try But all around, even our old friends put us down Let's drop the big one and see what happens
We give them money-but are they grateful? No, they're spiteful and they're hateful They don't respect us-so let's surprise them We'll drop the big one and pulverize them
Asia's crowded and Europe's too old Africa is far too hot And Canada's too cold And South America stole our name Let's drop the big one There'll be no one left to blame us
We'll save Australia Don't wanna hurt no kangaroo We'll build an All American amusement park there They got surfin', too
Boom goes London and boom Paris More room for you and more room for me And every city the whole world round Will just be another American town Oh, how peaceful it will be We'll set everybody free You'll wear a Japanese kimono And there'll be Italian shoes for me
They all hate us anyhow So let's drop the big one now Let's drop the big one now |

Hang your head in shame, McRiff. We'll have no irony here.
As for Chiang's anthem, I'm sure ole Tom can help us out.

The Piano Has Been Drinking Tom Waits
The piano has been drinking my necktie is asleep and the combo went back to New York the jukebox has to take a leak and the carpet needs a haircut and the spotlight looks like a prison break cause the telephone's out of cigarettes and the balcony's on the make and the piano has been drinking the piano has been drinking...
and the menus are all freezing and the lightman's blind in one eye and he can't see out of the other and the piano-tuner's got a hearing aid and he showed up with his mother and the piano has been drinking the piano has been drinking
cause the bouncer is a Sumo wrestler cream puff casper milk toast and the owner is a mental midget with the I.Q. of a fencepost cause the piano has been drinking the piano has been drinking...
and you can't find your waitress with a Geiger counter And she hates you and your friends and you just can't get served without her and the box-office is drooling and the bar stools are on fire and the newspapers were fooling and the ash-trays have retired the piano has been drinking the piano has been drinking The piano has been drinking not me, not me, not me, not me, not me

Hmmm... I don't think so, but it's been a while since I watched the movie so you could be right. You may be thinking of the Soviet National Anthem though, which is also an excellent tune.
El Matador - February 17, 2006 06:02 AM (GMT)
There is a piece from Star Wars from Episode 4 called Binary Sunset - that should be our national anthem.
Failing that, the orchestrated theme from Days of Thunder.

The Soviet national anthem is indeed a patriotic tune.

The lyrics sound like some shit produced by a hippie drum circle!
Happy Ahmed - February 17, 2006 09:21 AM (GMT)
The point of a drum circle is to drum. There are no lyrics.
It is good to see that you are failing to grasp all the ironies of southpark however.
Adolf Chiang - February 17, 2006 09:26 AM (GMT)
I'm pretty sure about the stereotype of hippies include reciting poetry to the beats of drums.
Happy Ahmed - February 17, 2006 09:42 AM (GMT)
Yes well done. That's exactly what it was about.

The guys who make South Park are Libertarians, they hate pretty much every point of view. Those dudes rock.

I see that 'South Park' has a conservative bias, chiefly of its mockery of liberals being a lot more severe than its ridicule of conservatives.

Depends what kind of 'conservative' you mean... they take the shit out of the 'morally conservative' a lot of the time.
Happy Ahmed - February 17, 2006 10:00 AM (GMT)
See I don't see that at all.
Back on topic: I have the perfect anthem for the right. It is a delicate composition with powerful lyrics and an upbeat tempo.
