Title: Broken Ipod
Description: Damn thing is broken
Maus - February 6, 2006 07:00 AM (GMT)
So my iPod is on the blink. On shuffle, it sometimes skips songs when it gets halfway through them, which happens with recurring frequency until it needs to be reset. It can also take a while to boot up.
The real problem, though, is that it doesn't seem to like talking to the computer anymore. iTunes won't recognise it most of the time, and the computer won't safely eject it. Which means that the most obvious suggestion, updating or restoring the original settings, isn't currently an option.
Any ideas?

Yeah, my cellphone and digital camera aren't working at all either. Sucks.

First of all try restarting the whole thing by pressing the middle and top button?
Second, try updating to the most recent software
Third, do a whole restore
Fourth , find your local iPod dealer :P

With PC's when it gets old you've gotta pull out cards and change jumpers, but on a mac, you just pick it up, throw it away, and go buy another one.
now that's convenience |

fuck apple.
i had to buy a new one.
Maus - February 7, 2006 10:11 PM (GMT)
All useful comments, but unfortunately, seeing as it won't connect to the computer, I can't actually update/restore it.
Stupid iPod.
Hannoir - February 7, 2006 10:17 PM (GMT)
Do you have the latest version of itunes?
If you do, see if that helps.
If it doesnt, go to ubertec in Parnell. They will look at it and tell you to pay $500 to send it to Australia.
A new ipod from Parallel Imports costs $489. Go figure.
This happened to me a month ago.

two words,
Under Warranty
if so, then two more words
FREE UPGRADE!!!!!111!!
oh yeah!!
Maus - February 8, 2006 12:34 AM (GMT)
Ha ha yeah that'd be nice, except that, you guessed it, the warranty expired about a month ago.
Also, I don't have my songs stored on a computer anywhere, so I'd have to go about the arduous process of regathering 4000-odd songs if I can't use podutil to download them off the stupid thing.
:retarded:
However, it
appears that I'm not the only one having this problem.
Did you have a similar problem, Hannoir?
Hannoir - February 8, 2006 01:11 AM (GMT)
I had exactly the same problem buddy, exactly the same.
I didnt want to buy another ipod cos apple had screwed me over so bad, but I was going travelling 4 days after so...I bought one.
Luckily I used my credit card, so its all in British Pounds. Cheap!!
Maus - February 8, 2006 01:32 AM (GMT)
Le sigh.
Oh well. I guess I'll just have to live with it then. Maybe I'll get a new one in the States. :iiam:

I could make it work because I am hardcore.
I am playing my ipod through my computer speakers at work.
The agony scene is conducive to a productive work environment.

Backup your music dumbasses. DVD burners for the win, my whole collection is stored on 4 cheap pieces of plastic... except for what I've gotten since then, which will be backed up once it's enough to fit on a DVD.
And that's a backup for music on a normal computer HD, I can't imagine the kind of mindset that would rely on a portable HD for their data. Storage space is ridiculously cheap, if you can afford an ipod you can afford to backup the data on it.
Maus - February 8, 2006 02:08 AM (GMT)
Constructive as ever, Oob, but needless to say I have my reasons for not being able to back up my music.

No computer? Hell, you could come over here and use my burner, and I'll even provide blank DVDs, because I'm such an upstanding guy.
Of course it may be a moot point if you can't recover the data from your ipod... I doubt that will be the case though, it's just a matter of how much effort/money you're willing to put forth for it.
Maus - February 8, 2006 02:15 AM (GMT)
Kee-rect. And the various computers I do use were all unpractical, for various reasons. I was going to put the whole lot on the new computer my folks got, but didn't get around to it before the damn iPod crashed.
But it's all ifs and buts now.
the oob - February 8, 2006 02:19 AM (GMT)
Fair enough then, but let this misfortune be a lesson to the rest of you. No whining about cost, according to
this page you can get a DVD burner for $56.24 (incl. GST)... probably an extra $10 or $20 depending on where you go, that's the absolute lowest price you'll find. Thousands of songs backed up for the price of a few CDs.
Hannoir - February 8, 2006 02:24 AM (GMT)
Theres software you can download to get songs from an ipod to a computer.

Yeah, podutil is pretty good, except for annoying messages telling you to register it all the time. For the Mac, there's escape pod, which is a cool name. But, as I say, kind of useless when the iPod won't talk to the damn computer damnit damnit damnit :frustrated: :frustrated: :frustrated: :frustrated: :frustrated: :frustrated:
