Title: free movie night
Description: see above

Hey Yall,
Just sending out a message to any Uni students who are keen to come along for a movie screening, every fortnight at the AV library, to begin in first semester. I have to have solid numbers to ensure the room so any interest please email me at ryanbodman:_USE_THE_AT_EMOTICON_:mail.com. Got some sweet films of my own to show with political and social analysis themes, but any film likely to start up discussion which can be continued after the film are ideal. The idea behind the screenings is to have a discussion group, to bounce ideas of, and meet like minded people who give a shit. Cheers, Ryan

sweet yo.
should prob go in the media section. but welcome.
Adolf Chiang - January 13, 2006 04:48 AM (GMT)
What sort of issues do such films highlight?
Hauser - January 13, 2006 05:15 AM (GMT)
Sounds cool to me, but yeah I second Adolf's question.
Ryan - January 13, 2006 09:50 PM (GMT)
Howdie,
Films im thinking we could show include chomsky lectures, fog of war, 9/11 lets roll, the yes men, mike moore films etc etc. Any film which will get people talking about the world we live in and perhaps begin to something about it are great, and i feel discussions are such a good way to form and enhance opinions and ideas.
Any film that people want to show to add to any discussions would be great. Effectively i want to start a platform for viewing and talks, and from there, let the beast take its own form.

Ryan,
Have you seen the Pocket Penguin series they're selling at USB at the moment? Chomsky, Moore and others are all included. $5 for 55 pages or so, so it's a great way to introduce people to those writers if that's your thing.

How bout the Corporation, that's a good'un.
JFK by Oliver Stone. In 100 years what actually happened to Kennedy will be tought to y 11 history students. If he was actually killed by the CIA/Military industrial complex, then you've got to ask who really runs the most powerful country in the world, if not the American people.
Hannoir - January 14, 2006 01:28 AM (GMT)
The Corporation is awesome. I've seen it a few times, most recently in my econ 232 class. Definately provides something to think about.
Tony Montana - January 14, 2006 01:30 AM (GMT)
Oh, I've got another one: Control Room, the one about Al Jazeera.
maniacnymph - January 14, 2006 02:14 AM (GMT)
FUCK YEAS for The Yes Men, theyre fricken awesomeness on a stick.
Ryan - January 14, 2006 02:42 AM (GMT)
to scarface, the ideas you're saying align with Jim Hightower's writing, as he looks at how the people of the US can recalim their democratic ideals. So you might be interested. Anyway its good to see there is some interest in this idea, and yeah, the corporation is good, and we showed that last year. As i say, all films that will promote discussion will be watched, so keep an eye out on this forum, on poster boards and in craccum clasifieds closer to the start of sem one, for times and films, and bring along all who may be interested. Cheers for the feedback, and i look forward to meeting you all.

Ryan, just out off curiosity, what sort of club or association are these film screenings part off? I hope it's not the new Comintern or something sinister. :hilarious:
Ryan - January 19, 2006 06:36 AM (GMT)
hey, no group affiliation, just a good old fashioned get together

Like ACT on campus? LOLZ. :imaracist:
Hauser - January 19, 2006 08:41 AM (GMT)
Haha, OH SNAP Jpar just committed ownage on Adolf!
As Ams said, the Yes Men is perfect for something like this. Good Luck and Good Night (The Clooney-directed movie thats showing at the Rialto about McCarthyism) will be an interesting one to watch once it gets out on DVD too.
Either way, Ryan this sounds kickarse, count me in brother.

Since when did ACT equate to Comintern? Why don't you come up with better jokes?

Since it was part of a global conspiracy to push a radically individualistic brand of free-market capitalism on the world, enslaving us all in a system of production that benefits the very few and impoverishes millions, y'all.

Planned economony is what kept billions enslaved across the world during the Cold War.

That's actually a pretty good suggestion. I'd be up for a porn night along with the deep, serious movie night.

Alright! Who's responsible for editing my text?
Archie McRiff - January 21, 2006 08:35 PM (GMT)
I may well be keen. But it's not the kind of thing I'd do each time... but occasionally I would probably grace the AV room with my presence.
