Title: Buyers Guilt
Description: Do you suffer?

Saturated-self - January 11, 2006 01:55 AM (GMT)
Hi there,
I am a trade me addict.

I have recently sold 14 various things on trade me which will bring my feedback up to over 100.

I think trademe is a great place to sell and buy things that you need but want to avoid paying the expensive "shop" prices.

I recently purchased a dining room table and a seperate auction for chairs as Had people coming to stay and they wernt the "sit and eat from your lap" type of people. I paid $50.00 for the chairs and about $20 for the table so felt it was a great bargin. In fact it cost us more to recover the chairs than it did to buy them!

anyhow i digress... The Dining table i purchased was really bought as a stop gap to fill an immediate need. It is small and round. For as long as I can remember i have always wanted a HUGE rectangular dining table but the particular one i love costs several thousands and is made of native timbers.

Today I found one the right size and style on trademe. Ok so its not made of rimu or kauri but the timber used does have some history.

So i bid. then i bid again. and again and again. somehow over the duration i have ended up bidding $315.00 ( so far! oh no will i go higher?)

so although im happy that im not paying more than the table is worth i am beginning to suffer terrible buyers guilt.
Is anyone else aflicted by this condition?

Indeed, I have spent far too much buying old books on trademe in the past, but I haven't done it since I got back from Europe (basically cause I'm broke now and I don't want to rack up heaps of credit)

Oh yes, I feel your pain, although not with trademe.
Every time I buy something that there is a remote reason that I don't need it, I feel terribly guilty. It nags my brain and I feel funny in my heart. Seriously.
Since I have become a student, however, I have managed to perfect the art of ignoring this guilt, because well, guilt is a "useless emotion". But it springs back every so often.

The really silly thing is the less i need the item the less likely i am to feel guilt.
A decent Dining table, a fridge freezer Big $ items like that give me guilt but the cheap stuff i dont need leaves me with no concerns.
Maybe i just have guilt about spending over $50.00 at a time.

yeah I think thats what gets me, whenever I spend like $50 or more on something I don't really need. I could buy three things at once that cost $30 each and be fine, but not one thing for $75.

go figure

yo Shedevil: http://www.blackphoenixalchemylab.com/welcome.html

im getting one of these oils sent over from Aussie, theres someone over there i can get them from (sometimes). Though you'd be interested, cant wait to see what it is like. I think I am getting Azathoth:

'Azathoth (limited from Springtime in Arkham)
Azathoth is the blind, idiot god who sits on a black throne at the center of Chaos. His scent is high-pitched and screeching, both impenetrably dark and searing bright with the clarity of madness: tangerine, saffron, vetiver, black amber and cedarwood'.

I get buyers guilt all the time.

Yeah I'm much the same, hoarding wealth kicks ass.

I feel no guilt with my purchases the vast majority of the time, because I figure that once I buy something, I ought not really feel bad about buying it because it would totally invalidate any value in owning the thing in the first place.

I have to spend most of my money on international travel.

But i've bought a wopping 14 purchases on trademe. However the price of them is well over a grand (cause I got my computer off trademe).

Good luck to you too, i think you have to go to the Uk?

Florida, all the way on the other side from NZ. Adds a nice amount to the flight bill. Lots of theme parks though.

I bought this new bra, because like, it was like, really pretty and like, beautiful. But now like, whenever I wear it, it feels like, it's like not even there. So like, I bought this really expensive bra and like, I may as well not be wearing it because it feels like it's not even on anyway. Ya know? *chew chew*
