GIMP has been in IC for as long as I've been at Uni.

Hannoir - January 11, 2006 02:14 AM (GMT)
I went and investigated when I was at uni today.

Yay!

Firefox just doesn't seem all better than IE to me. I've recently upgraded to it for security reasons since my brother loves to fill my computer with spyware, and also cause IE fonts were fucked and I didn't know how to fix it.

They just seem pretty damn similar, and firefox seems to take considerably more ram.

I find firefox convenient cos of the browsing with tabs thing, I really like that. I also finds it doesnt crash as much as IE and I get less spyware.

Yeah I'm starting to think it has a memory leak or some shit because the RAM usage builds up if I leave it on for ages. There's an easy solution though: get the Sessionsaver extension (not sure if that link has the latest version) which will restore all your tabs when you close and restart Firefox (even if it crashes), and then just close and restart Firefox whenever it's starts to get bloated, which you can tell by seeing its process in Task Manager.

Otherwise, very good program, especially with a nice suite of extensions. Adblock alone makes it worthwhile.

Firefox shits all over IE

at least firefox renders HTML so much better! oh and it doesn't have those stupid "Would you like to install this porn dialer?" popups!

I was using firefox but switched back to IE after my nightmare experience trying to get css to work properly in firefox, and also I find IE runs faster.

I do miss adblock though, don't miss the tabs so much (I mean whats wrong with alt+tab?)

In my experience, all browsers begin to leak memory like a sieve after about a week.

Either someone who enjoys leather a little too much, or a free open source equivalent of Photoshop (but apparently more difficult to use).

oh fuck yes. It was originally designed for linux, which automatically renders it impossible to use by mortal men.

QUOTE (www.encyclopediadramatica.com/The_GIMP)
Half-arsed open source knock-off of Photoshop used by people too cheap to buy real software.

A majority of GIMP users are either too stupid to pirate Photoshop from the internets or are Lunix users who could not comprehend Windows XP's superior intarface. GIMP is supported on multiple platforms, thereby providing wank fodder for GNU groupies who cannot install Lunix.

It cannot be overstated how much the interface to the Gimp sucks. It uses three windows: one for drawing, one for toolbars, and one for more toolbars. GIMP may be able to do everything that Photoshop can, but you'll never be able to figure out how.

Synopsis - January 11, 2006 12:00 PM (GMT)
:hilarious:

I've used it once. It took me 5 minutes to figure out how to open/save a file, and even then I managed to bugger it up.
The developers have obviously never heard of [doHTML]<acronym title="Human Computer Interaction">HCI</acronym>[/doHTML].

Hehe I manage alright with GiMP. Maybe it's just you people struggling.

samf - January 11, 2006 07:57 PM (GMT)

Proper usability > 'managing alright'.

Maybe it's because you've studied CS, or are already familiar with Photoshop? I'm still figuring out the basics of image manipulation, but I'm stuck with GiMP until I get broadband or some kindly soul gives me Photoshop.

It does take more RAM on a window to window basis.

However 3 IE windows uses more RAM than 3 FireFox tabs. Depends how you browse I guess.

FF is stunning when compare to IE IMHO
