Title: Aus Strike
Description: Possible No Class on Thurs

Fez - April 5, 2005 05:03 AM (GMT)
I dont have the flyer with me but theyve been laying around lectures and Im surprised no one has reported it here yet.

If your'e lecturer is a member of the Staff Union you may not have a class on Thursday.

Pretty sure it doesnt effect me, I have a class at 10 but I dont go to it anyway.

Form what Ive heard Im in support of the staff, sounds like the vice-chancellor is being a real cock.

Why is this action being taken possibly? What has brought it on?

DISCLAIMER: Im probably wrong

I think its something along the lines of

VC: Hmm these union staff are being greedy, I know! Ill offer the non-union staff members a pay rise and not them
AUS: Hey! Fuck you VC! You cant do that!

Wonderfully put fez....... even if its wrong im going to take the AUS side because of the sheer beauty of what you said happened!

^ Ya basically.

What the VC did was very inflammatory. Obviously not a union lover, but still wasn't a smart thing to do at all.

Yes actually he can do that. If the individual lecturers are willing to negotiate privately without strike action then he can do this. If they are not part of the union then what the union members do is irrelevant.

The union members sign collective agreements and so therefore, united groups are able to strikee because they have the support of the others and they have the person who represents them.

i read somewhere that apparently what he did was illegal, (last craccum i think)

This kinda screws up the lecture schedule though.. (yes we paid for those lectures!!)
Leaving 1 stream ahead of the other...

Yeah but it depends on how far they take the strikes, ie// will they put the notes on cecil? or as part of their strike will they refuse.

dunno but back in the uni days, most of my lecturers would hav put all the lecture notes on their respected websites way a head of time.
