... Opinions...

My top 4 in no particular order...

Resident Evil ... the moment when the dogs first jump through the glass down the narrow hallway is one of the greatest moments of game play in the history of gaming.
Tomb Raider ... when the mummy of the mummy of the first T-Rex first appears in the large cavern
Elite ... When you first successful dock at full speed without the use of docking computers
GoldenEye ... fullstop

One time on OFP multiplayer, I was playing the Americans and I planted some satchel charges on the side of the road. By the time I pressed the detonator, three T-72s blew up. Then I took care of the rest of the convoy's passengers from a distance with my trusty M24 sniper rifle.

Beating Penance on FFX

GoldenEye: Beating Control on 00 mode, Doing Archives on 00 in 1:20-invisibility cheat.

C&C Generals-Mass producing nukes and destroying the world. (I had over 100 once)

Despite being Chinese, I preferred to play the Americans in that game. My strategies revolve around tank warfare, thus I need more advanced tanks.

Yeah, USA are probably the best. But nukes are just sooo cool! Particle Cannon is just gay. Nuclear Artillery is good too if yo know how to use it.

templar34 - January 9, 2006 09:32 PM (GMT)
Jedi Academy: Killing that fucktard (deciding to finish with Dark Side)
KotOR 2: Beating Kreia with only Force Powers
Jedi Knight 2 (?): Force Grip. Cliff. Do the math.
Vampire: Bloodlines: Having awesome dead vampire sex with Jeanette.
Dawn Of War: Last four level or so.

Adolf Chiang - January 9, 2006 09:34 PM (GMT)
If the particle cannon could do the same sort of damaged as the Ion Cannon from old C&C, I'd be proud. I like USA because with the supply drops (I sometimes have up to 20 of them in my base), the endless cash flow allows me to have numerical superiority like the Chinese. As for nuclear artilleries, I just take them out with my stealth bombers.

One thing I find annoying about playing China is that you have to listen to tacky pseudo-Chinese music (composed by a White man) and fake Asian accents all day long! (A good soundtrack can go a long way for any game.)

I thought the RA 2 soundtrack was great..I have the CD and still listen to it sometimes.

In 'Generals' only the Americans have a good soundtrack (I'm a fan of orchestral music). Klepacki (the guy who composes for Westwood) has gone downhill since 'Tiberian Sun', RA1 had the best soundtrack for a long time.

Apart from that, MOHAA's soundtrack was one the best I've heard (I've even written some of the mp3s into CD for my listening pleasure). Giacchino (a very good film composer) worked well with the Seattle Symphony. However, by the time he worked on COD, the soundtrack was shit (or maybe it was that Hollywood Studio Orchestra).

In MOHAA, the best mission was the one where you play as .30 cal. gunner on a irememberjeep and you have to fuck up this DAK (Afrika Korps) airfield, followed by storming this bunker (very labrinthine) with the best part of the mission being able to shoot at Krauts from a hole in the floor (they couldn't where the shots come from since you're hiding behind the crates).

Oh yeah forgot one...

The Silent Hill non-playable demo...

Adolf Chiang - January 9, 2006 10:22 PM (GMT)
That time as an Airborne misdrop in MOHAAS, I took over this flak battery, lowered the guns to ground level and destroyed two German trucks with it, the armor on the guns shielded me from the retaliatory gunfire of the enemy infantry and I just too them out too.

Team Fortress Classic: managing to conc jump (think grenade jump but with no damage and more lift) up the lift shaft in 2forts with the enemy flag in hand... as the shaft is quite high this requires perfect timing and is fucking hard to do, especially when you're being chased.

Civilization series: nuking and subsequently occupying all enemy cities in one turn after years (game years) of preparation. Doesn't work very well in Civ 3, or at all in Civ 4.

Sometimes when I get bored, I play that cheesy 3D pinball game that comes with Win. XP. One time I managed a score of 52,000,000+.

It would have to be when the phoenix takes off in Shining Force 2 for the megadrive. My first rpg, and one of my favourite gaming experiences ever.

First playing World of Warcraft. That was just pretty incredible initially.

Adolf Chiang - January 9, 2006 10:52 PM (GMT)
The first time I played RA (it was skirmish), that was pretty thrilling. Then it just gradually phased out over the years... First time I played TA was also pretty good.

JPAR - January 9, 2006 10:59 PM (GMT)
Anyone noticed that playing RA on fastest setting used to feel incredibly fast. Now it's like playing with a snail compared to the likes of starcraft and warcraft?

Adolf Chiang - January 10, 2006 12:07 AM (GMT)
In terms of pace, the fastest RTS game I've ever played was RA2.

JPAR - January 10, 2006 12:19 AM (GMT)
I enjoyed RA2 but in my opinion prism tanks were wayyyyyy over powered. 5 could tear apart an enemy base incredibly quickly.

Playing online however I noticed that it was almost always just spam tanks as quick as possible which was lame. However that's the problem with playing RTS online is you always have to play hardcore and can't fool around as much. *remembers playing Starcraft ladder* ugh.

Adolf Chiang - January 10, 2006 12:25 AM (GMT)
I stopped playing online altogether after the endless demands for sitting in front of the beige box. The only C&C RTS where building too much tanks isn't the right way to win was 'Generals'. As for the best air-to-air combat I've ever seen, that still goes to old 'Total Annihilation' (the planes do all sorts of crazy loops and turns and were all VTOL). 'Starcraft' 'aerial combat' consists of two air units shooting at each other while stationary. That sucked!

My favourite thing to do now if I'm bored and want electronic relief is to play Halo's levels "Halo" to "Assault on the Control Room". Those are the best chapters of the whole Halo series, and whatever difficulty level you play them on they are still fun.

For easy, try running the whole time. No stopping, not even to help out marines. Same applies to Normal, though you can stop to get marines on your side if you like.

Best Halo experiences ever: the red elite downstairs on the first bridge of "Assault on the Control Room" - once, I threw a grenade and the dumb bastard jumped off the bridge :) another time on Heroic level, I hit him and the force pushed him off :ninja:

Another favourite is the time I checkpointed in an impossible situation - one bar of health, and an elite right in front of you. The catch is, the elite has a grenade on him, so even though your screwed, and he laughs, he dies as well.

As for Comp games, Civ (original) and Alpha Centauri are simply too engrossing and timeless to overlook. I found Civ3 to be almost unworkable.

Best moment of Alpha Centauri: getting over 900% with Brother Lal's UN faction.

Yesterday when I was playing BF2 at midcity and the guys down the aisle from me were complaining that I was cheating because I was killing them so much. Best Moment Evar. :ninja:

Senor - January 10, 2006 02:20 AM (GMT)
The single best moment is:

Half life 2 when DOG runs out and takes out like 10 combine, then picks up a combine trauck and trows it through a building then climbs up on a combine dropship and starts haking it apart. Best ever scripted even hands down!!!!!

Synopsis - January 10, 2006 02:32 AM (GMT)
Unreal: Leaving the Vortex Rikers into Nyleve, when the music starts and you see the waterfall... sooooo pretty back then.

HL2: Was fighting some combine, I ducked, a manhack that tried to attack from behind flew over my head, missing by inches.

any FPS: When an enemy tries to take you by surprise and in pure reflex you blow them away before they can do anything.

When I was playing 1 on 1 in Red Faction, Both had equal scores on the clock 2seconds to go, i see him and fire my nuke, he snipers me in the head with the rail gun, I go down, as he is gloating my nuke nails him by suprise. :D with 1/2 second to go

I play a lot of scoutknives on CS and this has become a habit for me. I'll see someone, my hand will spaz twitch, head shot. If only I had reflexes like that in real life heh.
