causes cancer? read below

===================

"Many are unaware of poisoning caused by re-using plastic bottles. Some of you may be in the habit of using and re-using your disposable mineral water bottles (eg. Evian, Aqua, Ice Mountain, Vita, etc), keeping them in your car or at work. Not a good idea. In a nutshell, the plastic (called polyethylene terephthalate or PET) used in these bottles contains a potentially carcinogenic element (something called diethylhydroxylamine or DEHA). The bottles are safe for one-time use only; if you must keep them longer, it should be or no more than a few days, a week max, and keep them away from heat as well. Repeated washing and rinsing can cause the plastic to break down and the carcinogens (cancer-causing chemical agents) can leach into the water that YOU are drinking. Better to invest in water bottles that are really meant for multiple uses. This is not something we should be scrimping on. Those of you with family — to please advise them, especially children."

Nah-uh.

Snopes is your friend when you're not sure about these things.

thought as much, cheers (y)

these plastics do release chemicals over time (you can't store coins in normal plastic cause they get fucked up) but thats over a period of years not weeks.

still you should be washing out the bottle between uses.

That's pretty cool, I had previously assumed that was fact and wasted a lot of fucking money on buying water bottles at work...

samf - January 9, 2006 10:34 AM (GMT)

I use them for months at a time (with washing).

Or until I lose them, which is much faster. :(

the oob - January 9, 2006 10:34 AM (GMT)
Wouldn't surprise me if the rumour was deliberately leaked by water bottling companies.

samf - January 9, 2006 10:40 AM (GMT)

I always thought that was the case.

Ehh. I re-use, coz drink bottles that you buy:
are freaking $7
no longer have Power Rangers on them :(
cost more to replace when i lose them (ie, every few days)
make water taste like plastic
make juice taste like plastic
make water taste like plasticy juice, if you have had juice in bottle previously

in short, 'disposable' water bottles are my friend. If I get cancer, well...we all gotta go some stage.

Hannoir - January 9, 2006 08:42 PM (GMT)
Yeah. I'm not paying for water twice a fucking day! you are having a laugh.

Archie McRiff - January 10, 2006 04:54 AM (GMT)
I fucking agree with nymph. I remember when I was a kid, how much drink bottles sucked and tasted plasticy. And then when you invariably left them in your backpack over the weekend, they would get mildew. I say fuck em.

I buy a bottle of Pump every week or two and it costs me two bucks and I'm happy with that.
