At the moment I'm liking Heroes 3

You have good taste in games. There's a Heroes 4 now but it rubbed me the wrong way.

The Heroes game is my boyfriends and I fell in love with it :) I love my "click and point" games but I lose patience a lot of the time and end up using walkthroughs :P

This is 'Heroes of Might and Magic 3' we're talking about right?

Just checking.

Yes it is...

Yeah, there are other games that use the same abbreviation.

What's pretty cool is a custom map I got was based on a series of books I had read, if you've read the Belgariad series look for the map 'The Alornian Dispute'. Good just for the novelty factor.

Heroes 4 is superior in every way. Yet I haven't even completed a single campaign and i've had it since a few days after it was released. I can't put my finger on it but it's just not the same addictive game play of 2 and 3. I remember hot seating from friday through monday morning with my mate and trying to convince his mum and my mum to let us call in sick to school.

There's also how unbalanced the undead are. They've always been kinda overpowered, but in the last stages of heroes 4 they're unbeatable. A stack of 60 vamps can kill any army. Although I remember how powerful one of the order wizards was in the early stages of heroes 3...the one with chain lighting at the beginning of the game adding to the fact they start with 40 guys!

If that was the one where you have to take his castle.. the trick was to avoid him completely and take his castle when he wasn't home :)

Yeah that's pretty much the case with me as well... I think my the time I had played through the second and third versions I was pretty tired of it... there wasn't enough change between sequels to keep me interested.

It's a tricky balance. If you don't change enough, it becomes boring quickly. If you change things too much (Master of Orion 3 for instance) you risk completely fucking up the formula. The Civilization series does a pretty good job of this.

Did the boxed set of HOMM3... took over my life for a while.

I've never played any of the Heroes series. But I've always heard it's good... reckon I need to have a go at it.

Most definitly.

One thing I noticed with this game is that it's much more fun hotseat than lan, in my opinion anyway. The only advantage of lanning it is that you can't see each others moves, but that's only really important if you're pretty competitive, which we never were. Maybe it's just the fact that I can't be fucked staring at the screen unable to do anything for a long fucking time while someone else gets into tons of battles. If you're in hotseat you can pretty much participate in the other persons turn with advice etc.

Hmm...might be time to break out heroes 4 again..or heroes 2.
