Haha! Funny picture. Although I don't have an alcohol problem.

JPAR - January 11, 2006 09:09 AM (GMT)
There's no such a thing as an alcohol problem. Just an alcohol solution!

If no ones ever coined that before, someone should coin it for me. I see it going far!

JPAR - January 11, 2006 09:10 AM (GMT)
Fuck JPAR wrules, fuck.

Adolf Chiang - January 11, 2006 09:11 AM (GMT)
Well, they coined ADD and invented 'Ritalin', while a better solution for such misbehavior is called shut-the-hell-up-or-I'll-pop-you-in-the-mouth!

Fuck JPAR wrules, fuck.

Why did you talk to yourself?

JPAR - January 11, 2006 09:14 AM (GMT)
Only 1 in 10 ADD diagnoses is accurate. Rich parents, spured on by the capitalist both parents work system blame it on a disease and not your lack of parenting shit have caused that. Fucking capitalism.

I talked to myself because I deserve it. You desrve it. Cleo.

It's got nothing to do with capitalism. In the West, parents discipline their kids a lot less, compared to their Far East counterparts. I don't understand how can put up with all that graffiti and juvenile deliquency.

JPAR - January 11, 2006 09:27 AM (GMT)
I believe graffiti should be punished by the culprits having to undo their work. I hate graffiti, because it's an unneccesary crime. Theft is complciated. Unnecceasry destruction is not. There's no need to do that shit, but I don't think putting them on record or jail will solve shit. It'l just make sure they're poor for the rest of their lives. Making it a pain in the ass however, will make it a lot less socially desirable.

Spanking leads to unsocialble behaviour.

I was rarely disciplined by my parents. I've never been to court or started any real shit. The fact that my parents wre nice to me was a good enough reason to avoid starting shit when i was young. Punishment causes many adverse affects (Fact), reinforcement of positive behaviour is the best possible option, however in poor families especially (where both parents have to work for the way too low minimum wage) it is far more difficult than giving your kids a beating.

I used to live in West Auckland, my best friends were probably the most out of control kids i've ever been friends with. They were beaten with a kettle chord many times, it didn't mean shit. All it meant was that they grew tougher. If I grew up there I bet i'd have a criminal record by now. Instead we moved to the north shore.

Adolf Chiang - January 11, 2006 09:38 AM (GMT)
Depends on how beatins are administered. The culprits need to feel that they have done something wrong and feels that they need a beating (or other punishment). Just beatings alone won't solve shit.

Instead of those lousy family conferences, they should be sent to community service or borstal (that system had worked effectively, in giving them an attitude change in a regimented environment and by giving them necessary skills, prevented reoffending). It's a shame that youth offenders don't get corrected and they end up going further down.

It's not just the poor. Such work related lack of parenting can affect all kids, especially if their parents only know about what their children have been up to after a phone call or visit from the policeman.

Hey! I turned out O.K.

JPAR - January 11, 2006 09:44 AM (GMT)
Yeah you turned out fine....

Yes even rich parents in todays society can neglect their kids. The desire for money seems all rampant. I don't want to force it on people, but I truely believe a one parent system (mum or dad) staying at home is the best. At least until intermediate school. However I believe in not forcing ones morals on another uncertaingly. It seems to me people are better off this way, but it seemed to white southern fucks that black people were inferior. Fuck those fucks.

Punishment is effective, if the person/animal knows exactly what they're being punished for. However punishment has side effects, which are generally negative. This is why our criminal justice system works so badly, and why i'm totally against simply increasing punishments. Reinforcing positive behavioiour has just as great results without as many negative side effects. However, I stand by the saying, 1 ounce of prevention is as good as ten ounces of rehabilitation? Or something like that. No matter how harsh the punishment, it won't undo the crime.

One parent system isn't going to work because every adult has careers now. Nonetheless, kindergarten and schools also have to play a part in teaching good behavior. A good alternative would be to have a grandparent do some of that parenting while the parents are at work, it's a beneficial situation.

JPAR - January 11, 2006 10:19 AM (GMT)
My mother has a huge role in my nephews raising. I hope she has as large a role in my childs raising whenever I have one. However I wouldn't expect everyone to have this advantage. But yes I think kindy's and primary schools should be fully funded to help in this.

Dr_Steve - January 11, 2006 11:55 AM (GMT)

Technically i'm tied with Mnsr. Sardonic but I don't pay attention to statistics.

Rather I will just unilaterally declare myself as all top ten posters and the rest of you shall have to make do with suffering the hardships of the proletariat.

Enjoy, underlings.
