Title: Let's have a moment of silence for Ariel Sharon
the oob - January 5, 2006 08:58 AM (GMT)
As you may have heard, Ariel Sharon
suffered a stroke earlier today. I think it would be nice if we could all have a moment of silence for Mr Sharon, who has for years fought for reconciliation between Israel and Palestine, and without whom the peace process may be further derailed.

I didn't hear this at all :( Thanks for letting us know

God, Oob I must say you're a gem.

Wasn't he accused of massacring civilians in the Lebanon when he was an officer?

Yeah. The Sabra and Shatila and Kiblah massacre.
I don't want him to die though. I want him to be publically humiliated in the elections first. But, mostly likely his health problems are probably going to help him gain political capital.

He's going to die...or at least not be able to return to office anytime soon if ever.
But hey ... new boss old boss.. all the same. Dead Pali's
Anti-Flag - January 5, 2006 10:56 PM (GMT)
Yeah exactly Senor.
It doesn't matter if Sharon dies or not. It's the corrupt israeli establishment will remain.

I was being sarcy, he's a fuck. I don't wish death on anyone, but if I did, he'd probably be one of them.
The only thing is, as bad as he was, and his underlying plan to steal more land under the guise of a peace plan, there are plenty of Israeli politicians that are worse.

Certainly, if by "an officer" you mean "Minister of Defence" and by "accused of" you mean "found personally responsible for by an Israeli commission".
It's impossible to know, of course, whether or not he feels any remorse, as his career since would have precluded the possibillity of him admitting guilt. Who knows?
As has been mentioned, the situation is such that a fanatical terrorist like Sharon counts as a "moderate" in the Israel-Palestine situation, and things are unlikely to get better in his absence. The leaders are elected by a generation brought up on state propaganda, particularly intense via the mandatory military service, and unless the international community pulls its finger out, or sane movements like the refusniks gain momentum, it'll be more of the same.

Anyone who doesn't feel pity for Ariel Sharon while he lies on his death bed is an anti-semite.
Zoot - January 6, 2006 02:52 AM (GMT)
Zoot, why do you hate freedom?
the oob - January 6, 2006 03:19 AM (GMT)
Is it too much to ask for a little human compassion, especially for a bastion of humanity like Mr Sharon? Have a heart people.

Oob, it was funny the first time. Don't drag it on.

You find a man inches from death funny? Why I certainly don't.

For fuck sakes, Sharon is a world leader! If the world mourns the death of Arafat, then surely we must have sympathies for Sharon also.

The Palestinian regime under Arafat embezzle billions of taxes, while Abbas is equally powerless in combating the terrorists. Let's see which one is more corrupt...

We need this emoticon:

I could make good use of it.

Mr. Oob, you're a world class troll!

Hah, great headline from fark:
"Sharon to come out of Coma tomorrow. If he sees his shadow there'll be six more weeks of bombing"
Adolf Chiang - January 19, 2006 09:01 PM (GMT)
Let's have another minute of silence for the guy, it's likely that he'll end up being a vegetable.
