http://www.dragmasters.co.nz/contenders.htmlGoing to be awesome, come along and support the Import boys :D
samf - January 1, 2006 10:05 AM (GMT)
Excellent. If I'm free I may go along with camera & dictaphone etc...
Fear and Loathing at the Drags rides again, guys?
Hauser - January 2, 2006 06:59 AM (GMT)
Hahaha, Sam, we've got to do it. The question is, who gets the LSD for us?
samf - January 3, 2006 09:48 AM (GMT)
I'd be happy to do a Thompson lite version without the acid for this one, Oliver... The site doesn't give ticket prices or other info but I'll see what's up and post again later.
Dr_Steve - January 3, 2006 12:13 PM (GMT)
haha I saw the title of this thread and thought this:
Hauser - January 4, 2006 07:25 AM (GMT)
Hahaha, ownage, Doctor!
Sam, come on, it will seriously suck without acid. We need to do something enjoyable on acid, and write a combined article for Craccum. I need to get my uber-statist ideology into that goddamned magazine's pages anyway, and something as harmless as us taking LCD and watching races would be a great entrance!

I'll be there with my work mate, our main goal is to go and annoy one of the racers who is a friend/custy of ours.
/edit: $15 at the gate

Would he be amenable to a few photos or words into a dictaphone? I don't know what kind of article I'd haul out of this, but it'd be nice to try things out and see what I end up with.
LSD is fine if that's your thing, I guess, but I enjoy and notice more when I'm my non-hallucinating "normal" self. Plus the colour swirls would play havoc with photography. I can imagine you staring into that Harlequin paint for hours, Oliver..
Steveo - January 5, 2006 05:57 AM (GMT)
Yeah and hes got a mullet so its all worth it
samf - January 5, 2006 08:48 AM (GMT)
Righto. So who can I expect to see at this thing? It'd be nice to get a group together or something.
Steveo - January 5, 2006 08:50 AM (GMT)
Well im iffy atm, ill txt u and let u know for sure
samf - January 6, 2006 04:53 AM (GMT)
Alright. I'm planning to get some money and go down there early. Steveo, it'd be nice to catch you down there, so perhaps I could talk to your mate with the drag car. How are you getting there (if you're going)?
I don't especially want to go by myself, so anyone else, if you're going to this thing - post here before midnight, or forever hold your piece. :D
Steveo - January 6, 2006 05:31 AM (GMT)
Ok, samf im driving. I would advise to remove all valuables from the car as you dont want it to get broken into. Talking to Tony shouldnt be a problem but it might not be for long as he will be busy tuning and prepping. As for time, i finish work at 3.00

Where are you driving from? I can get hold of a car if necessary to get down there, but it'd be easier to get a lift, if possible...
The car I'd borrow contains no valuables at all, but I'm afraid it'd look rather limpwristed parked at the drags...
Steveo - January 6, 2006 05:51 AM (GMT)
Um im driving from Hobsonville, i could pick u up if its not too far out. Just going to call lauren now to see if we are still going
samf - January 6, 2006 10:31 PM (GMT)
Okay. I've PMed my address and cell number. Still going?
Hauser - January 7, 2006 07:10 AM (GMT)
Sam, did you get my voice message/text about it? I tried to call you a few times. Sorry about me not initially responding for an hour and a bit: I was at work at the time and wasn't really able to answer the phone in front of the supervisor!
Give us a rundown how it goes.
samf - January 9, 2006 06:18 AM (GMT)
We were already on the way... sorry dude. :( No alcohol or LSD allowed either - but trust me, you would have gone home in an ambulance if you'd tried it.
Some images from the event for the interested...

This is a mildly modified rotary.

This is a highly modified rotary with a turbo you could fit your head inside.

HVATOS - a Mazda RX3 drag car owned by Tony Markovina, a friend of Steveo's. Turbocharged rotary with race ports (sizing is secret, however). Ran a 10-second pass on Saturday. And it's only a 1.3 litre engine... check the size of those rear wheels.

The queue of V8s and imports going on to the dragway. Not shown: enough noise to rattle your fillings. The two black cars in the middle are Chevy Camaros, with 468 and 540 cubic inch engines - that's around 7 or 8 litres. Plus the one closest to the camera is supercharged... The black car at bottom right, mostly hidden behind some people, is a RX7 with a quad rotor engine - four rotors in a single housing - another sub-10 second car. And it sounds like a jetplane taking off.

Some of the other bogans we shared the afternoon with. It was even busier earlier on; the next round of Drag Masters should be really good - that's as long as they run more imports, instead of V8 race after V8 race. Chris Tynan's V8 ute spat its whole transmission and driveshaft onto the track at 8pm, thus cancelling out a lot of import racing.
But all up, an awesome afternoon out.
Steveo - January 9, 2006 06:22 AM (GMT)
nice photos sam! That was good shit, when i say secret porting, i mean thats not the porting it has, its a big race port but its actual size is kept secret so no one steals the way it was built
samf - January 9, 2006 06:36 AM (GMT)
Secret port design sounds quite neat though, don't you think?
Steveo - January 9, 2006 06:43 AM (GMT)
Also, its called a quad rotor, so its got 4 rotors + housing
samf - January 9, 2006 08:39 AM (GMT)
Okay, I've altered the post to include your corrections.
Where the hell do you find a quad rotor housing?
Steveo - January 9, 2006 08:55 AM (GMT)
You bolt 2 13b engines together with a custom eccentric shaft, thats why they are nearly impossible to tune, remember what tony said about if it gets to lean it blows? Yeah and thats on an easy engine
samf - January 9, 2006 09:17 AM (GMT)
I will never call an import a 'ricer' again.
JPAR - January 10, 2006 09:56 AM (GMT)
Anyone else find it amusing that out of all the forums...there's only one post in this one.
samf - January 10, 2006 01:12 PM (GMT)
From the last 30 days, anyway. All the real sportspeople are out getting sunstroke.
