Description: Scam baiting

419 Eater!

I saw this website at some point in the last year and thought it was very funny.

Today I got an email from a scammer and decided to have some fun. I'm going to see where this goes. I don't have a lot of time on my hands right now but I think it's worth it for the comedy factor:

Hello.
I got your resume from the job-site seek.com.nz
My name is Dilon Smith. I'm the general manager of Medley Studio Inc. located in Europe.
We need a representative in your city. Our contractors are doing different work for New Zealand companies, but they have problems with
getting the money, because our sponsors have rule to pay only with the incountry
bank to bank transfers. So we need a person, 18+ years old, authorized to work in the New Zealand, with minimal computer knowlege and abilities, who will receive the payments from our sponsors
by bank transfer and retransfer to our company with western union cash transfer for example.
We agree to pay you 10% for each transfer + all the fees connected with the transfers. Your income will be $4000 a month in average and you will be paid daily.
Please, e-mail me back if you agree to work for us and I'll e-mail you our requirements.

Dear Mr Smith,

I am very interested in your highly generous offer. What are the "requirements" you speak of? I am more than happy to work for you, and would like to meet someone for an interview. If you want I can send you a more up to date resume than what was on seek.co.nz

Warmest regards,

Hello.
We are doing securely web databases for these companies.
You have to receive the transfers, take your 10% and resend the cash by western union cash transfer.
All the taxes are paid by us, we also pay all the fees connected with the transfers.
I need your name, address, home and cell phone numbers if I need to contact you.
You can use your currect account or open new bank account in any New Zealand bank.
For transfers I need: Bank name, account name, account number.
(these are usual details to do the wire transfers, we don't ask for any secure details).
You are paid daily after each transfer.
I'll e-mail you the details for western union transfer as soon as first transfer to your account is done.

Hi!

That sounds really fascinating. What exactly are web databases? What sort of meetings am I supposed to have with your contractors, and what will I have to do with them?

That sounds easy enough to calculate, but what’s Western Union? I am with ANZ Bank here in New Zealand. Will the fees and taxes come out of my bank account or will they come out of yours? Because I’ll need to know if I’d have to deduct those taxes from the transfer I send to you. It’s also a little hard to keep track of my bank account right now. Recently my father passed away and there’s recently been a lot of money going in and out as it is from the will and funeral and stuff. Right now I’m staying at my friend’s batch, you know to get a bit of a break from things but it has no phone line. I can only access the internet from a café half an hour away into the town centre, and there is a bank there too. I will check email a couple of times a day though, so you’ll always be in close contact with me!

My bank details are:

Name: Marc Ellis
Bank: ANZ Bank
Branch: Waiheke Island
Account #: 01 5351 57886048 050

If you did need to send me something by post you can send it to where I’m staying:

Marc Ellis
C/- Pulp Sport
Manowar Bay Road
RD 1240
Waiheke Island

I hope you will decide that I am the right person for this job. I am honest and reliable and very hard working.

How much is my hourly rate?

Hauser - December 18, 2005 12:59 PM (GMT)
Hahahaha, oh man, I really, really hope he responds to that. This sounds like it's going to be classic.

I loved the Manowar Bay Road too!!!

sdr - December 18, 2005 09:42 PM (GMT)
It's a real road you know! It was the strangest thing, I looked online at a map of Waiheke to get a street name just in case this guy did his homework, I zoomed in on some random part of the island... and there it was!

Senor - December 18, 2005 10:22 PM (GMT)
Holy shit i read the cash bait on that site. Bahahah too bad scamming fags!

Hahaha Marc Ellis

Adolf Chiang - December 18, 2005 11:39 PM (GMT)
So, online scams have evolved from some Black guy with government/oil relations in Nigeria to some White guy in Europe with a company? :hilarious:

Fez - December 19, 2005 03:51 AM (GMT)
scamming the scammer is always fun but you should have gotten our input for this, he is not going to fall for the "Marc Ellis" thing

Well, from someone who uses three different names in the email (' iguegeexu milind', markbeier:_USE_THE_AT_EMOTICON_:hotmail.com and Dilon Smith ), he might not get the reference to Marc Ellis.

Hello.
The first transfer from my customer will be done soon, please, check your account on THURSDAY in the morning (the transfer have to come by 8:00 a.m. Sydney time).
After you receive it, please, subtract your 10%, go to nearest western union location and resend the other money to me by western union the same day. Attention, as we just began to work, the first week you have to retransfer the money the same day.
I pay all the fees, so substract WU fees from amount you send.
Here are the details to do western union transfer:
Name: Bakhchivan Georgiy
City: Veliko Tarnovo
Country: Bulgaria

(ADDITIONAL DETAILS IF WU AGENT ASKS FOR THEM:
address: 12 Konis str., Veliko Tarnovo, Bulgaria, 1005
phone: +35988481637 )

PLEASE, WRITE THE RECEIVERS NAME TO WU RECEIPT AS IT STATES IN THE TOP, NO MISTAKES, BECAUSE ONE MISTAKE WILL NOW ALLOW MY MANAGER TO PICK UP THE TRANSFER.
Please, e-mail me the info after you do western union transfer:
1) Sender's name as it states at WU receipt
2) the city the WU transfer is being made from
3) total summ transferred by WU
4) control MTCN number
This is our first transaction with you, I hope we will work together for a long time. Will be waiting for your reply in the afternoon on THURSDAY with WU transfer details. Please, confirm you received this message.
I ask you to write at WU receipt attentively the name of the receiver I gave you and not to do western union transfer with your credit card, I need you to go directly to western union office and send cash, because credit card transactions delay the transfer.
Thank you

He's just sending me rubbish that's been pre-written. I want to make this guy actually spend time and give me attention. I think it's time Marc expresses some emotional difficulties he's having.

ok I didnt quite catch that part

I now whole heartedly appreciate what you are doing SDR, if only we could make it as awesome as this scam

^^
You now have proof its a money launduring scam, now what to do with those bank details ... :hmm:

Hauser - December 19, 2005 10:09 AM (GMT)
Force him to take a picture of himself to prove he's real.

sdr - December 19, 2005 10:40 AM (GMT)
Those details must be all fake. I would love to do something like p-p-powerbook though. I will probably push for the photo option, maybe get him to hold a peice of paper with "CRACCUM" written on it with a marker pen, that's the sort of thing most scam baiters do. I'll send him a quick reply tonight and see how it goes. Next he'll give me a fake bank to contact to put a proportion of my own money into to "release the funds". That's when I demand something in return.

sdr - December 19, 2005 12:00 PM (GMT)
Dearest iguegeexu,

Thank you for selecting me for this. Don’t worry about explaining to me what Western Union is as I asked in my previous email, I have already researched it and found out.

I might have a problem doing the transaction by card. You see I’m not really welcome at my bank branch at the moment and have to do all my banking via the internet, so I can’t withdraw cash. When I receive the money on Thursday I will transfer the money onto my credit card and do the WU on that. I’m sorry that it will take a little longer, but I checked and it will not take longer by much at all, if at all it turns out!

Sir, in my country it is customary for employers and employees to get to know each other on a personal basis. It is also customary that for beneficial business relationships like this that we see proof of who each other are. Attached is a photo of me and in the background my friend Matt who I’m staying with at the moment (he was a bit annoying today though!). Could you please send me something of you as well so that we can know each other face to face as real men?

One more important question about the WU transfer this Thursday. Who is Backchaffing Georgy person that I’m sending it to??

With much love,

XXX OOO XXX

Marc

Bob Jones did this once. Ask me to show you the books.

Archie McRiff - December 25, 2005 10:43 AM (GMT)
Ah the brilliant Bob Jones. I read his book "Letters". Truly a witty chap. I also saw him on that Sky News show with Larry Williams leading up to the election (my parents watch it regularly) - it was fucking funny shit. Williams had taken a poll of the viewers, I think it was, "which party are you going to give your electorate vote to"; came back something like 70% National, 20% Act. Jones burst out laughing and said, "Your viewers are all bloody fascists, Larry!" Classic. Williams was red-faced and had a minute of non-composure. Jones pointed out, "I think we can safely say that that poll is not indicative of the overall population, Larry". I've rarely seen someone getting egg on their face quite so brilliantly.
