Title: Handy thing for finding new music
the oob - December 13, 2005 08:05 AM (GMT)
This is a site some of you may like. You put in a band/song you like, and then it starts playing music from other bands you might like based on that one (some of the music will be from the same band you put in though).
If it gives you some shit about a limit on the number of songs you can skip per hour, just refresh the page.
EDIT: better yet, delete the 'flash cookie', and then reload the page, or else you'll just have the same problem when you reload the page. To do this: right click on pandora, click settings, set the local storage to 0 (this will tell you it's going to delete all it's shit), reload the page. It will then say "waah gimme space", say yes (since all the stuff from last time has already been wiped) then reload again. Mind you this is probably more trouble than it's worth if you have a complex set up, since you'll need to put your settings in again the next time, but if you're just looking for bands similar to a single artist or song like me then this is the best option.

I found a neato ambient music internet radio station... ambient music is very good when you want to listen to music but are trying to do other things at the same time (programming in my case) and don't want the music to distract you... classical music works almost as well for this purpose. For those of you using Winamp:
1) Add --> Add URL
2) Paste in
http://64.236.34.4:80/stream/1032There are heaps of internet radio stations around,
here's a page with several (including the above) which has 128k streams for broadband and lower quality streams for modems.
I also enjoy
http://www.snakenetmetalradio.com/Snakenet-phbw.asp for metal, and
http://150.135.250.53:9000 for classical (both of those can be pasted into Winamp like the aforementioned URL). I have a few saved as a playlist for easy access.

hmmm
http://64.236.34.4:80/stream/1032 gives a 404 and
http://150.135.250.53:9000 keeps on breaking up. stupid jetstream

Really? Both work fine for me and I'm on jetstream (specifically, Xtras 10gb plan). Could it be a port issue?

no its cause I'm on ihug internet, and telecom deliberately make the internet that they loan out to competitors crappy for streaming/gaming.
eg if you're on a 256k plan, the speed of the packages averages 256k but you're actually getting it in bursts. for the unlimited plans you get the same bursts, but a bit faster so you never actually get full speed :'(

Haha yeah, that's why I have Xtra for my ISP, at least until the government kicks Telecoms ass like it promised to.

Hmmm... if it's bursty, perhaps you can fix the problem by increasing the buffer in Winamp?
