Title: Photoshop help
Description: getting Phriday rolling again

Don't know if this is the right place to post this, but hey...
I really want to get photoshopping on the forum and for pure lulz, but I don't have the time to decode all the tools in GiMP (which I have) or Photoshop (which others surely do).
Unless this violates some kind of meritocratic Internet code, could someone post some brief starter's tips for these programs - what tools do what, and so on?

sorry I don't know gimp, but here's how to paste a head onto someone else's body in photoshop:
when sticking heads onto other people's bodies, use the lasso tool to select the head, and select as much of the neck as possible. Then when you paste it into the picture with the body, check the "show bounding box" checkbox (this will be in a diferent place depending on what version of photoshop you have). Drag the bounding box til the head is the right size for the body, and move it into the right place. Then select the eraser tool, and erase little bits of the neck until its all blended in with the body and looks awesome.

Wicked. More of the same would be awesome; I'll post more here as I experiment.

no problem :) it'll be great to have someone else doing photoshops
by the way, the "feather selection" tool is awesome, it blurs the edge of the selection by how ever many pixels you set

You can also use the "magnetic lasso" tool, which makes it easier to select stuff. (the program uses colour change to identify the edges of different objecst)
Or Magic Wand, (by holding "shift" and selecting an area where colours match), this is a cheap way of doing it and doesnt always work where an image as much of the same colour in it.
Clone Stamp is handy also, hold down "alt" and drag an area you want to duplicate, then release "alt" and move the mouse aroundm, painting the duplicated area onto the rest of your image.
When you make text (for image macros) go to blending options and you can make it look all snazzy with all the options there.
The basic image macro format is Font: Impact. Layer Blending Options: Stroke: Black.
Id like someone to tell me about History Brush, Im yet to play with that one.

yea as far as starter tips go, feather, blurs and lasoo lol. and remeber to flatten the image if you have multiple layers before saving. i find adjusting the levels of the "head" to match the levels of the "body" because a bright head on a shady body just looks silly.

Oob!
I found an installer for Photoshop on the laptop. I have 1.6gb free space. How do I set it up? Will it run?
And how do I find that Windows optimiser you were talking about and use it?
:oob:

Where is this photoshop installer? Is it in the stuff I gave you? If so, what's the folder?
I guess you would just install it like any other program... though you can bring it to the LAN if you like and I'll set it up for you.

That's in installers/Tune XP. There seems to be two installers there, I think they're both the same thing. Install it and it should be fairly self explanatory, but again, you can bring this to the LAN and I'll go through it for you.

I say you should all use Macromedia Fireworks simply due to it's simplicity and ease of use compared to Photoshop. There is a certain comedic quality to poorly done head transplants.
I'M GOING TO JUMP THE COUCH DOCTOR.
