Kazakh government no fan of Borat
ASTANA, Kazakhstan, Nov. 16 (UPI) -- Kazakhstan is threatening legal action against British comic Sacha Baron Cohen for his portrayal of fictional Kazakh TV personality Borat Sagdiyev.
As Sagdiyev, Cohen has conducted inane interviews with U.S. bigwigs like Newt Gingrich, Buzz Aldrin, Brent Scowcroft, Ralph Nader, Donald Trump and Sam Donaldson for his "Da Ali G Show" on HBO.
He startled his subjects with ruminations over "the terrible events of 7-11" and questions like, "Is Disneyland part of the U.N.?"
Last January he drew the ire of Jewish groups and Kazakh officials by leading Arizona bar patrons in what he called a popular Kazakh folk song, "Throw the Jew Down the Well."
Kazakh officials have complained about Cohen's act in the past, but this is the first time legal action has been mentioned, ABC News reported Wednesday.
"We do not rule out that Mr. Cohen is serving someone's political order designed to present Kazakhstan and its people in a derogatory way," Kazakh Foreign Ministry spokesman Yerzhan Ashykbayev told a Monday news conference. "We reserve the right to any legal action to prevent new pranks of the kind."

Kazakhstan sux. Borat is pretty funny, IMHO.
He has an amusingly, and intentionally poorly designed website

There should be a line in the sand somewhere as some of the things Borat says clearly ridicule Kazakhstan in the most degrading manner. If he wants to hassle some country, at least create one out off his imagination, make sure it sounds like a real one (he could have used something like 'Kajakstan'), that way people won't get offended. This has been used by Scott Adams in 'Dilbert' where the company's orimary choice of outsourcing is a fictional fourth world country called Elbonia.

Yeah, I am sort of inclined to agree with Chiang here. I mean, Borat is fucking hilarious, there is absolutely no doubt about that, but I do feel a bit sorry for Kazakhstan. They should ridicule an area that is actually in real trouble, like Turkmenistan (who have a crazy dictator who names months after him and builds golden statues of himself).
Elbonia = awesome!

I'm more disturbed that he wanted to build an Ice Palace in what is almost the worlds driest and hottest - and poorest - country on earth.
Most of Turkmenistan's neighbours are very worried that the Turkmenistani's will all try to move to a place with more freedom and better living conditions, like Stalin's gulags.

Jesus, this just shows the lack of humour in the world.

If I'm a Kazakh, I'd be fucking pissed at the crap Borat gives to the that country.

I actually agree with Templar on this. It's ridiculous. Staines is not suing Ali G for bringing it into disrepute. Why?
1) Because everyone knows Staines sucks and there's no arguing about it, and
2) Because people in the UK have a sense of humour, and also - unlike people in Kazahkstan - jobs which they can do instead of whining about TV comedians.

Sounds like someone has a political chip on their shoulder! And it also sounds like the kind of grammar and syntax Borat would use. Perhaps this article also is a new prank of the kind?
