Title: Tanczos to take Donald's seat

hotshotec - November 10, 2005 08:18 PM (GMT)
Nandor Tanczos has decided to take the seat in Parliament made vacant by the death of the Green Party's co-leader Rod Donald.

Mr Tanczos was an MP in the last Parliament, and just missed being re-elected on the party's list in the September 17 election.

"Rod Donald's death is an enormous blow, personally and politically, but the work continues," he said today when he announced his decision.

"It's been really hard dealing with the fact that Rod died," he later told National Radio.

"It's been a hard decision."

The Greens won six seats on election day, and Mr Tanczos was in seventh place on their list.

Mr Donald died on Sunday, and the party gave Mr Tanczos time to decide whether he wanted to take the co-leader's seat.

If he had not, the party could have put in another candidate from its list.

"Rod always encouraged me to be myself within the constrained environment of Parliament and I intend to do that, with a vengeance," he said.

I may not be a fan of the greens, but I have to say Nandor is probably the best voice us students will get.

Yeah, it's good he's back in Parliament, even as sad as the circumstances are. We do need a voice of reason about marijuana.

I think his contribution was pointing out his fear of greens in parliament, especially drug pushers like Tanczos.

Damn right.

Don't worry, it won't go through.

Hopefully Tanczos will pick up on Donald's smarter recycling/energy efficiency policies instead. They really have potential.

His contribution was meaningless drivel, even for a right winger!

Tanczos is not only about cannabis reform. He's barely even about that these days, to my knowledge. The current cannabis legislation is completely absurd and should be changed, either by making alcohol, nicotine and caffeine illegal or by fully legalising cannabis. But I haven't heard Nandor talk about that in ages.

SheDevil - November 30, 2005 09:38 PM (GMT)
NOOOOOOOOOO!

NO!

NO!

NO!

You can't make alcohol, nicotine and caffine illegal, i'll........i'll......die without them, i need them, they need me

Senor - November 30, 2005 11:25 PM (GMT)
yer Tanczos has been very quiet on the decrimilisation and legalisation front for a whil now, he recieved alot of flack from the public for his views, even tho he backed them with hard evidence :( he is hardly a drug pusher. even if u dont agree with people smoking/eating marajuana im sure u can sympathise with people who revcieve criminal records over possesion of a small amount, making overseas travel difficult to many countries.

He also feircly supports the student voice, something which is very lacking in the current parliament, even if he is a little unorthidox we need diversity in parliament otherwise u end up with the current american administration.
