Title: Forum game of Civ 4?

I actually had to delete the game and the CD images to make room on my harddrive for partitioning. So sorry, but you'll have to count me out of Civ.

I'd be down with that shit. Just tell me what to do when the time comes.

If you've got civ 4 installed and patched you could try right now (as a test, not for an actual game, we'll do that later).

Go into the game, go to multiplayer --> internet games. Make an account if you haven't got one, log in to that, then find the game 'oob' in the lobby, password is 'craccum'. Join that game, pick any empire it doesn't matter as we're just testing. I won't be in it myself, but I'll have the server running.

Ideally contact me on MSN before you try this.

Ok I'm going to bed so I'm turning the server off (wouldn't do this when there's a proper game running, but will for the time being), so just message me here or on MSN if you want to test it out.

There's a really fucking awesome Civ 3 screenshot of George Bush, I wish I could find it.

Update on the net game: we currently have 5 people (including me) interested: myself, JPAR, Tony Montana, and two friends of mine from outside the forum. This is a good number, but one or two more people would be nice, so if you're interested or know someone who is gimme a shout.

The problem at the moment is technical difficulties, if I run the server as an internet game (ie. connected to gamespy) rather than direct IP connection it crashes enough to make it unworkable. The good news is I've managed to get direct IP working, in that my laptop can (on the 56k modem, which is good for testing because it's a completely open connection) connect to my PC (on ADSL), which means the problems I've had testing direct IP with a few people have been faults on their end rather than mine. The other nice thing is that my DNS client seems to work with it, so people will be able to connect to oob.no-ip.org rather than needing to have my IP address (which will change, unlike my DNS address).

Hopefully I can get the issue sorted by seeing what ports the laptop uses and making sure people connecting to me have those ports oepn... at any rate it's probably going to be about a week before we start the game for a few different reasons.

Also looks like I might have to teach some people how to forward ports.

Update: managed to get direct IP working with Tony Montana simply by having him turn off windows firewall... no port forwarding required! I'll test this out with the others.

Update 2: working with another guy as well.

JPAR: check your private messages.

Ok we're down to 4 people since one of the two 'outsiders' has dropped, he's going to be quite busy over the next weeks and wants a chance to play the game in single player first. If we start a new game after this one he'll be happy to join though.

On the bright side, the less people we have the faster the game will go.

I could always get more people by simply asking for kiwis/aussies (similar time zone) in the Civ 4 forums, but I'd rather get people I already know in some capacity.
