Title: the art of conversation
Saturated-self - November 3, 2005 12:07 AM (GMT)
Has the art of conversation been replaced by the internet? Are we destined to a future where we no longer phone for a chat or get together to catch up. When we do see each other do we have anything left to talk about?
More and more lately, I have discovered that the internet is replacing conversation… ok so net chat is a form of conversation but the use of vocal chords seems to be diminishing….
There have been several occasions lately that I have heard about things via the internet, usually after the general forum/msn population.
Am I the only one feels we are becoming fragmented from “real” life?

I'm totally with you on this one. Despite spending alot ofmy time on the web (ok, msn is cheaper way to keep in touch with england) i actually dont like it that much.
my news year resolution is to start spending time with people/talking on the phone as opposed to this internet rubbish.

With the continuing rise of telecommunications technology web-forums and chat rooms will be replaced with video chat, and video forums. There'll still be a place for communicating by writing on the internet, but I think there's a huge feel for video. So, we'll gain more use of visual expression and vocal chords, but the distance will remain.

internet gives you more time to think before you speak, which makes you sound infiantely cooler than you do when you speak to someone!
well thats my theory anyways.

Sounds like the way people felt when the art of letter writing was being replaced by the telephone.

Letters are way cooler than phones, though, and internet is also cooler than phones. Phones suck!
