k, so i really dont know what sort of career i want to have, and im thinking i might have a year off to work, then come back to this whole uni thing in 2007 or in 2nd semester 2006 if i get way bored. i know, i know, do whats best for me, but what do you guys think?

Hannoir - October 26, 2005 07:35 AM (GMT)
I ticked I don't know because I don't, do what you feel is right for you.
If you want a break to get money and figure stuff out then do it, I'd say do some travel while you can as well cos that's constructive use of your time.

Leave now and you'll never come back.

I'm about to graduate (fingers crossed) after five years at uni. I still dont know what i'm gonna do career wise. I figure next year i will just fuck around at uni doing media officer & Drinking Club stuff then get a real job in 2007. So my advice is to finish your degree then do some soul searching.

You might leave then never come back, whats a half finished degree to you, except wasted years and tens of thousands of dollars? Unless your the motivated type who actually will come back.

ie. 'The Wong Manuever'. For those who don't know him, this is named for a friend of ours (me, Mr T, Synopsis) who's done half an arts degree and has never gotten around to finishing it.

seriously what is 3 years? the years go so fast! this year is almost over, im a third of the way thru my degree and i dont know fuck all more than i did when i started. its only like 400 days of something, and your into the swing of things now, it'l be fucking gay getting used to the laxy lifestyle, bit of work, bit of drug use, bit of sleep in, no study then BAM u actually have to start doing something when u get back to uni. ur work ethic will go to shit, and you'll forget everything you prerequisites were sposed to teach you, you'll drop out, start drinking meths, never shower and before you know it you'll be a dumpster diver and be mugging people for a living, with a craft knife.

but its completely up to you. :)

Take a year off uni, watch all your friends graduate then go back to uni, discover all your new uni friends are way younger than you and go through a mid life crisis at 22 and still have no clear career direction.

or

Keep going and finish uni, go on an OE to find your purpose in life, return home to land a mint job with your degree and worldly experience.

Shut up.

I was talking about myself but hey if it applys to you as well it wasn't intended. :P

Happy Ahmed - October 27, 2005 05:14 AM (GMT)
I didn't take a year off i've just been around for a long time. I know a whole spectrum of people from 1st year through to 7th. I don't think it's a bad thing at all. I do feel old at times though.

sdr - October 27, 2005 05:17 AM (GMT)
I started uni at 20, now I'm 21 and second year. I think being slightly older gives you a great edge socially.

Happy Ahmed - October 27, 2005 05:18 AM (GMT)
I'm 24. This makes me smarter and more handsome than pretty much everyone.

Hannoir - October 27, 2005 05:18 AM (GMT)
I think a year off is a good idea but its when you take it.

I took a year off. Started uni at 20 and will graduate at 23. Most of my schoolfriends have graduated and have jobs/cats etc. Sometimes I feel inferior, but most of the time I just laugh at how tied down they have become.

Fez - October 27, 2005 05:20 AM (GMT)
I voted no also.

Just because like Oob and Mrt I have seen friends take the year off and never come back

Once you get into the fulltime world its hard to get your brain into learning mode again (or at least thats what I put it down to :dont know:)

Happy Ahmed - October 27, 2005 05:20 AM (GMT)
I view my first year as a year off even though I was at uni. I was only 17 and did a degree which was entirely irrelevant to what I am doing now.

Shit I had fun though.

SheDevil - October 27, 2005 09:14 AM (GMT)
Yeah, you're doing a BA, every year is a year off.

Hauser - October 27, 2005 09:19 AM (GMT)
Stick at it, mn! I'm feeling pretty disillusioned with my own degree right now too, probably because of all these big assignments and annoying exams and the stress that comes with all that. As people have said, if you leave now, it is a bit depressing having to come back later. Why not finish now, and then simply get a good job when you leave and get rich quick?
