Title: Wwii Related Games
Adolf Chiang - October 23, 2005 04:30 AM (GMT)
Being a big WWII fan, I've decided to start a thread about WWII games. My personal favorites are MOH and COD.

BF 1 with beer :D
Wolfenstein 3D (was so adrenalising when you're 8).

I used to be so scared when I played Wolfenstein 3D that I'd need a friend or one of my parents to sit alongside me when I got to new levels.
Call of Duty and Medal of Honour are lots of fun, as of course is Battlefield as was noted above.
A pretty cool strategy game that you might like Chiang is called Blitzkrieg, and is a very, very tactical, realistic real time strategy game that is very awesome. Of course, set during WWII.

A good WWII related game is to get a stick with a nail in it and run around killing Jews.

I didn't have a PC when Wolf 3D came out. The first game I had was 'Doom II' and it was adrenaline pumping especially with a soundtrack that fitted the mood. When I first played RTCW however, I actually felt scared of the zombies at first, since I wasn't used to shooting things of the supernatural. RTCW was a disappointment (WWII and the supernatural just didn't add up).
I agree with the reviews that COD beats MOHAA since MOHAA was more of traditional (man vs. world) FPS where you go around killing thousands by yourself. COD changed this by proving that no man fights alone. The reason why I never purchased BF1942 is because my connection sucks and it doesn't have a proper story-driven single player campaign.
Since the MOH franchise is getting a little old, I was thinking, maybe they should make on about the Korean War. It was fought mostly with WWII weapons except that the enemies are different. But I would imagine that title being even less popular as the Korean War just isn't terribly interesting to Americans, just like how MOHPA wasn't a success compared with the previous titles. Maybe MOH needs a sister franchise called 'The Iron Cross' or ' The Knight's Cross' where the single player campaign involves being a German soldier. It's not particularly PC and will spark controversy, but I'll be one happy customer.

I've seen that game but I haven't tried it. I guessed it to be running on the AoE engine.

I'd like to see a Korean War game also... people's interest might well increase if it's well enough made. And I've often wondered why there aren't any campaigns from the German side in most of these games either - PC or not, it'd be an interesting side to the game,

Which korean war? The one we're about to have or the 1950s one?
Adolf Chiang - October 24, 2005 06:40 AM (GMT)
I would imagine that if they keep the politics out off the Axis campaigns, things wouldn't be quite controversial. For example, no involvements of atrocities.

The 1950s one! The Americans aren't particularly interested in the DPRK now that the talks are underway and it's a matter of bribing them with aid.

I thought battlefield vietnam was under-rated
samf - October 24, 2005 06:49 AM (GMT)
For sure! I still play that game a hell of a lot.

Why did they release the BFV 'Redux' version? Does it have anything other than improved graphics?
templar34 - October 24, 2005 07:06 AM (GMT)
To be honest, the single player of BF isn't too bad, it can be fun.
BFV++. heli pilot B)

I understand there's a few new missions and airborne units to go with uprated graphics. I may take a look sometime...

Only the most violent/funny video game ever made
Adolf Chiang - October 24, 2005 09:43 AM (GMT)
Meh, back before I have my current PC, the CD drive broke down, so I was stuck with
NationStates for two years. That's when I expanded my military/weaponry knowledge and created the 'Adolf Chiang' alter ego. Pity it was all browser-based, but it trained up my writing skills and quick thinking.
The country I roleplayed with (no longer in existence due to abandonment in the face of Uni) was called the Armed Republic of Sino, which the critics have labelled as a case of Nazi China meets Uncle Sam. It's ruled by a benevolent military dictatorship, with the official political ideology of (ultra-)nationalism and a capitalist economy. Just talking about it bring back some wonderful memories...
From the information supplied by the site, Postal 2 seems to be something modelled on GTA but with more babes. Steveo, did you actually spent the US$19.95?
Steveo - October 24, 2005 09:55 AM (GMT)
Errr, spend, err um yes. Yes i did spend some money, somewhere. Pitty about it being banned in NZ
Adolf Chiang - October 24, 2005 10:01 AM (GMT)
If it get's banned then it's proven to be more violent than GTA.
Hauser - October 24, 2005 10:29 AM (GMT)
Postal is utterly brutal, and thus is awesome.
BTW, there is a Korean War game (Called the Lost War or The Forgotten War or something) which I believe is 3rd person strategy, perhaps squad based I can't remember (I HATE SQUADBASED GAMES), but either way it is relatively new (as in last three or four years).
Adolf Chiang - October 24, 2005 10:52 AM (GMT)
I think it was 'Forgotten Conflict' or something. It was basically a clone of those 'Commandoes' games but set in Korea. I saw it on sale for 5 bucks and thought it was lame.
