(old school emo)
Diana Krall - Why Should I Care

Fez - October 16, 2005 10:27 AM (GMT)

De La Soul - Trying People

Oh yeah
more than words - extreme

fuck that song brings back memories of too much shit.

Happy Ahmed - October 16, 2005 07:24 PM (GMT)
Ehehehe.

My 'emo' songs all involve a lot of shouting. And mostly they are just there to pick me up when i'm not feeling energetic.

But ok.

Pantera - Hollow.

Senor - October 16, 2005 07:54 PM (GMT)
tears for fears - mad world
eric siera - 5th element track (ill edit when i remmeber the name)
all funeral for a friend
all simple plan
Good charlotte - day that i die
Blink 182 - Adam's song
all yellow card.
Papa roach - last resort (as emo as it gets)
some of bjork will add track names later
The balllard - millencolin

Steveo - October 16, 2005 08:22 PM (GMT)
Yeah Millencolin - The Ballard is very sad song.
Not all Funeral For A Friend songs are emo, the first & second albums are not very emo at all. The first album is hardcore but the second (casually dressed and deep in conversation) is more rockish. The newest album (hours) is complete soft cock stuff, its ok to listen to but is def emo

Adolf Chiang - October 17, 2005 02:20 AM (GMT)
What exactly is 'emo'?

él_bronto - October 17, 2005 08:12 AM (GMT)
Pearl Jam - Black

"I know someday you'll have a beautiful life, I know you'll be a sun in somebody else's sky, but why, why, whyyyyyyyy-yyyyy, can't it be, oh can't it beeee miiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine"

Chiang, here's a google image search for emo. You know google, right?

Adolf Chiang - October 17, 2005 08:18 AM (GMT)
Those Google images don't tell a goddamn thing! I was also offended by the thumbnail of a pink tank.

From the images of people, is this a new breed of rock music?

Steveo - October 17, 2005 08:46 AM (GMT)
emo = short for "emotional" new genre for a form of punkish rock. More melodic and thought out music that is sad/emotional

Yes but all you had to do was click from "images" to "web". Stoked you saw the tank though, here it is in all its glory for everyone to see :D

*ahem* back on topic methinks some of these songs are just emo as in emotional. Not that I really have a clue about genres.

REM - everybody hurts

I think that "thought out" is a misleading way to describe emo music. Usually its plugging the the same old "I hate my dad cause he won't let me go to the mall", "She doesn't know who I am, I feel alone" and "I masturbate alone at night while crying myself to sleep because the bigger kids at school think I'm funny looking but I don't want to do anything about it or get over it because appearing emotional and sensitive and depressed might mean I finally get laid by a caring chick" lyrics into songs to exploit a generation of alienated, self-conscious and insecure teenagers who think they have found music by the only people in the world who finally "gets" them and understands what they are going through. :fap: Plus, the music is tame.

Yeliah - October 17, 2005 08:40 PM (GMT)
^--> Simple Plan in a nutshell.

Steveo - October 17, 2005 08:54 PM (GMT)
Im thinking emo as in the genre with bands like (the old) Dashboard confessional, and stuff like that.
QUOTE

I'm writing you this letter to let you know I'm not alright
And in this city the streets are paved with hate
And you cry yourself to sleep tonight
And say, "No, there aren't enough love songs in the sky."
You counted down the days till you could say, "Bye-bye, city, bye-bye."
You're walking down on Union
You see the roads and know they're apart of you
thats about as emo as thursday gets.

El Matador - October 18, 2005 12:27 AM (GMT)
Nirvana - You Know You're Right
My Chemical Romance - I'm Not OK

They all sound the same to me to be honest. Try Tomahawk - Captain Midnight.

QUOTE
What? Are you surprised?
I'm staying alive
Spinning your eyes just taking you
Take me away
I gave you the world, was all for you
But I'm sick and tired of wasting time
I want mine
Take me away
I gave you the world, was all for you
Stinging lies

that has a fucking cool sound to go along with it too

Zoot - October 18, 2005 08:22 AM (GMT)
In my day, we had another term for "emo". It was called "wanky whiny teenage goth angsty bullshit".

I love how that part of Captain Midnight bursts forth from a sultry beginning. But I wouldn't classify that as emo. Just fucking rad.

As a side note: Did you know that Mike Patton used to take apart hotel hair dryers, shit in them and put them back together again? Awesome.

Adolf Chiang - October 18, 2005 08:54 AM (GMT)
Can a certain piece of classical music be classified as 'emo'? Someone mentioned a jazz piece earlier.

Shame on the British! They let one of their Scorpion tanks fall into the hands of these vandals.

Happy Ahmed - October 18, 2005 08:58 AM (GMT)
Anyone under the age of 30 who listens to classical music is officially classified as "faggot".

This may result in you being beaten up, which may result in an overwhelming desire to have a crywank while listening to a simple plan. Thus classifying you as emo.

Welcome back, Ryan.

That was what I grew up calling it as well - I only really learnt about the whole "emo" thing at the start of the year. 99% of it still falls into that category. I was actually an extremely "emo" person all of 2003. Then I got a girlfriend and began actually interacting with other people on campus in a meaningful way. It worked a charm. May you all be as (occasionally) happy as I am.

Are you sure that wasn't me who told you that? Either that or I told someone who then told you. I'm awesome

Yeliah - October 19, 2005 04:52 AM (GMT)
Nope, it wasn't you, I don't think. My friend Andrew and I were having a Patton talk last night and he brought it up. Maybe you've told me before though and I was just too pissed to recall. :shrigs:

Hauser - October 19, 2005 07:29 AM (GMT)
Awesome, back to Patton! I dont think any Patton is emo though, so its a bit depressing in this thread I guess :P.

Hannoir - October 19, 2005 08:22 AM (GMT)
who or what is this patton you talk of?

Hauser - October 19, 2005 08:23 AM (GMT)
You know not of Patton? Thou hast blasphemed, thou shalt go straight to purgatory!

(he's a musical genius. he sang for faith no more, tomahwak, mr bungle, fantomas, etc)

ok with all types of music there are two sides to it

"emo" is the "in the spotlight","mainstream", "oooh look at that hot boi with the makeup!" type that most people frown upon (though secretly have some blink182 on their computer somewheres)

"emocore" is the slightly more underground, dare I say "ok to like" type

examples of "emo": Linkin Park E.g ("I tried so hard and got so far but in the end it doesnt even matter")

examples of "emocore": Taking Back Sunday ("A thousand clever lines on a thousand clever napkins, I wont ever ask if you dont ever tell me, I know you well enough to know youll never love me")

templar34 - October 19, 2005 08:28 AM (GMT)
I object to blink 182 being called 'emo', they were doing their pop-punk before emo came about. blink, Green Day are above that.

Steveo - October 19, 2005 08:30 AM (GMT)
rad way to put it fez! Sums it up nicely :D

I was avoiding the word "emocore" as people tend to think of hardcore and post hardcore (which is pretty much metal music)
