Title: I Was Approached By Christians
Description: it was interesting
Hannoir - October 5, 2005 02:29 AM (GMT)
I was sitting enjoying a hot chocolate outside a computer room and two girls came and sat next to me and asked if they could do a survey on me about my attitudes towards god.
They were very chatty and friendly asked me where I was from, how I liked New Zealand, what degree I was etc...
Then the questions started
The first was do you believe in god? Flat out no. If they had said "a god" I may have answered differently. They asked me to expand and I said that I didn't like to accept any idea regarding spirituality that had preformed, which is what I see god to be pre-formed. They didnt know what to say to that...next question
Have you ever studied the ideas of Christianity? Yes, actually I have, and I chose to reject them as I didn't feel they fitted my needs.
Oh wait before this they showed me a series of words and asked what was the most important, I chose peace and trust. Do you have peace in your life? Yes thanks. And trust? Yep, that I have too.
Ok right then it was a bunch of stuff. I said I believed in evolution. It makes way more sense and explains loads more to me. OOOHHHHH she didnt like that. Went on at me about how she had studied it (not biased at all then) and that you needed faith to believe it. Uh, ok. Then did I acknowledge Jesus as existing? Yep, as a historical figure there is evidence to suggest he did exist, yes.
Then the best bit...she said if you don't believe, then how do you have morals, know the difference between right and wrong etc? I was like, erm, ok I don't need anyone to dictate to me what is right or wrong, for example I do not need the Catholic church to tell me that abortion/sex before marriage/whatever else is wrong, as I can make a judgement on this for myself. She then said oh but christianity must have a basis in your morals. Nope said I, I merely judge things on an individual basis and don't feel I need any ideas preformed by others to dictate how I run my life.
We then parted, not before she gave me a leaflet, which I will write more on later. I just thought I would share my experiences here for now.

It would have been comedy gold if you had refrained from answering truthfully. Three words: Flying Spaghetti Monster.

Yay for Hannah! You did really well :D
Senor - October 5, 2005 03:10 AM (GMT)

El Matador - October 5, 2005 03:27 AM (GMT)
Hey guys, this sounds suspiciously like the same sort of questions that these two guys were asking in the gym once when I was in there. I don't know about you but I find this slightly fucking pertrubing. Sounds like cult recruitment to me. Exposê time?

At least my hair is on my chest and not my arse, tempy.
templar34 - October 5, 2005 03:37 AM (GMT)
That was supposed to be our little secret, babe.
El Matador - October 5, 2005 03:53 AM (GMT)
Somethings I can keep secret, somethings I can't... and having your bum look like it belongs in ZZ top is well over that line.

More about this pamphlet.......
Hannoir - October 5, 2005 06:32 AM (GMT)
Oh yes, the pamphlet.
Page 1. "God loves you and created you to know Him personally. He has a wonderful plan for your life" - um ok. I am sure the bible does not encourage loving people regardless as that is reckless living. And I know God didnt create me - my mummy and daddy did. Ahem. As for the wonderful plan, how, if I don't have a close relationship with God, does he know what a wonderful plan for me is? I think I have a better idea. Bear in mind that this pamphlet is to convert non believers, so I don't think they hit the target by saying that he knows us personally.
Next installment when I have written more crap bout China.

I move that we seek out this christ-mongerers and portray them as a cult.

El Matador - October 5, 2005 09:59 AM (GMT)
ShedEvil, any ideas who these christian pushers are? And why they are bothering students on campus?
Scuzza - October 5, 2005 10:24 AM (GMT)
Given the results of the AUSA elections, it would perhaps be fitting to remind you that "these people" outnumber "you people" quite significantly.
They've been around for a long time. University is a fucking lonely place for a lot fo people, as a lot of intelligent people have absolutely no social skills. You have these friendly people coming up and spending five minutes talking to you, there are a lot of people who decide to come and hang out with them, just to have some people to talk to.

Indeed. But I'm interested to know why there is such a presence here and not back in England.
El Matador - October 5, 2005 10:42 AM (GMT)
These people do not outnumber my people. My people are waiting with arms in the mountains above Torra Borra for the signal.
The thought of fundies in power makes me scared.

Hannoir, you wouldn't be in either History 222 or 321 would you?
Hannoir - October 5, 2005 12:09 PM (GMT)
Nah, econ 232. Is the current economic boom in China sustainable?
samf - October 5, 2005 12:15 PM (GMT)
Hard to say. But you knew that.

Yes. But i'm tending to say no, not sustainable at the moment. It's too complicated though. It would make a better sociology essay.
samf - October 5, 2005 12:23 PM (GMT)
All the best! My sleep patterns are totally unsustainable so I'm off for the night. Don't forget, PM me the beret. :P

I went out with a catholic schoolgirl once. Does that count?
templar34 - October 6, 2005 02:09 AM (GMT)
Is she still a Catholic?
Was she chaste or chased?
fatjoe - October 12, 2005 10:54 PM (GMT)

It's more that people like to cheese off evangelists (fucksticks) rather than everyday christians.
