Well done Sloanie! Awesome article + a very suitable picture. Looking foward to more motorsport in craccum :D

I thought it was awesome too. And from chatting to Alec it seems Master Sloan will have another rallying article in Craccum next week too. Who said they only publish the same old shit?
él_bronto - October 3, 2005 10:10 AM (GMT)
Sloanie is El Matador?
The article was wicked
You gotta admit though, there's something hypnotizing about spinners... it's trippy like the car is moving but it's really not

I am going to write an article on dragsters for Craccum in the near future. The more engines the better.
El Matador - October 3, 2005 11:20 AM (GMT)
I was thinking of writing one about controversial moments in rallying. But people may have had their fill of gravel by then
samf - October 3, 2005 11:27 AM (GMT)
You think
you have clutch problems...

What kind of drag racing? I can help with pro-imports. I know a guy whos got one. Can get photos and what not
samf - October 4, 2005 06:14 AM (GMT)
Sounds excellent - probably not until after this week though.
If you know anyone who's into 'dinosaur' dragsters - ie, the American V8 machines - that'd be awesome too. I was basically just going to write some text to strap together pictures of insane multi-V8 drag cars, but you've inspired me to create an article.
El Matador - October 4, 2005 06:45 AM (GMT)
Ha. I only know about funny cars. Pity there's no time for a 'Need For Speed' issue.
samf - October 4, 2005 06:59 AM (GMT)

Meet Eddie Hill's Twin Dragon car from the early 60s -
two huge Pontiac V8s. The engines are part of the structure of the car itself, which Eddie moulded from aluminium himself.
El Matador - October 4, 2005 07:30 AM (GMT)
Samf!
Can I do something on tractor drag racing? I saw it once on ESPN...it's fucking insane. They have engines mounted on each wheel...
http://www.tpcadzand.nl/optimaspiritverl.jpgHave a look at that!
sdr - October 4, 2005 07:34 AM (GMT)
It seems to me like Eds are going to have to open up a weekly column for people with an automobile fetish.
Senor - October 4, 2005 07:36 AM (GMT)
do you mean Tractor pulling?
its massive in the UK, i went to one as a kid. they have like quad v8s for each power sector/wheel. and have to drag a slab of concrete/floa down a stretch of dirt without going out of bounds. massive blowups and shit, good fun :) all get up on the back wheels, spewing torque everywhere.
El Matador - October 4, 2005 07:40 AM (GMT)
How is it even a sport!?? It's like racing mobility scooters. Why the hell would you?
I've had a think about it, and I'll prolly just write a 'Darkest Days of Rallying' article.
Steveo - October 4, 2005 08:36 PM (GMT)
Pro-import! Damn your v8s!
samf - October 4, 2005 08:40 PM (GMT)
I've seen tractor dragsters at Fieldays but this is just on another level... I've got some thinking to do!
EDIT: Of course Pro Import deserves inclusion, but I can't leave the V8 monsters out altogether...
Mr Lanky Bobs - October 7, 2005 01:21 AM (GMT)
should do 2 v8 articles...one by a ford fan one by a holden fan...
El Matador - October 7, 2005 04:24 AM (GMT)
Ha. I think it if I wrote the holden one, it would just be Genesis with all the names taken out and Peter, Greg, Mark, Todd, Tomas, Steven, James and Paul put in instead.
él_bronto - October 8, 2005 05:26 AM (GMT)
Or one about how to drive like a rally driver.
El Matador - October 8, 2005 05:56 AM (GMT)
Last time I checked, Volvos weren't setting the WRC on fire. Driving like a rally driver?
Skills needed:
Left-foot braking.
Awesome co-ordination.
The force.
That was easy.
samf - October 8, 2005 05:58 AM (GMT)
That could actually be a lot of fun. You could get people together, and everyone stumps up some money (like $15 or $20) for an incredibly cheap car (ie under $100) and take it out somewhere in the wops to try rallying.
You'd need to avoid dying, of course. But it'd make a great story!
El Matador - October 8, 2005 06:05 AM (GMT)
Hahaha. Craccum Rally Academy. I like the sound of that. Maybe. But we'd need a trailer to take a de-reged car.
Actually the Volvo has inspired another possible article...watch this space...

I wonder if there's anyone out there who has one...
I suggest a 1982 Honda Civic station wagon with a home-installed supercharger for the Group B experience.
El Matador - October 8, 2005 06:27 AM (GMT)
Ha. I suggest a 205 or something equally obtainable...which could be fun. But you'd need a massive paddock. One where the owner doesnt mind having basically a sprint car track on his property.
Steveo - October 8, 2005 06:44 AM (GMT)
I know just a paddock! It has jumps in it too. The owner would encourage tom-foolery.
El Matador - October 8, 2005 06:59 AM (GMT)
http://www.trademe.co.nz/structure/auction...57&key=43621469Proposal:
1 Paddock track.
1 Car.
1 Stopwatch.
"Craccum Race of Champions"
You could almost theme an issue around it and make it a mock event program....
Would be awesome to do over the holidays
samf - October 8, 2005 10:45 AM (GMT)
Perfect! Just like the Top Gear "cheap coupes" challenge a while back... so very cool...
Can we fit a fake Group B bodykit to the car?
Steveo - October 8, 2005 10:36 PM (GMT)
LMAO, as for the body kit: I propose a cardboard one. We could have guest racer (craccum contributer or sam or something) would be awesome
El Matador - October 8, 2005 10:53 PM (GMT)
Just do it as fastest time across five laps. It would be awesome
El Matador - October 10, 2005 04:56 AM (GMT)
Ok. I've sent off my article....
