Title: Election Final Results In
Description: Its a moral win to Labour
Scuzza - October 1, 2005 01:39 AM (GMT)
Labour now has a 2% lead over National, and the final result shows it has dropped just .1% since 2002. Regardless of where you lie on the political spectrum, it has to be acknowledged that no Government since National under Holyoake in the 50's has been so popular so consistently.
National are very lucky to not drop to 47 MPs - the Greens would only need 1300 more votes to have had Nandor Tanczos back at the expense of National.
The big winner from the specials, however, is the Maori party which has picked up a whopping 3.33% of the specials, justifying another of their seats. A lot of right-wing commentators had been commenting on the Maori seats as having distorted the results of the election, as it created an overhang that could be seen as serving Labour. However, by increasing their list vote so that they only cause one overhang (which works for National) that criticism will be lessened.
Labour Party 935,319 Votes 41.10% 50 Seats (31 Electorates)
National Party 889,813 Votes 39.10% 48 Seats (31 Electorates)
New Zealand First Party 130,115 Votes 5.72% 7 Seats
Green Party 120,521 Votes 5.30% 6 Seats
Mâori Party 48,263 Votes 2.12% 4 Seats (4 electorates)
United Future New Zealand 60,860 Votes 2.67% 3 Seats (1 electorate)
ACT New Zealand 34,469 Votes 1.51% 2 Seats (1 electorate)
Jim Anderton's Progressive 26,441 Votes 1.16% 1 (1 electorate)
Destiny New Zealand 14,210 Votes 0.62% 0 Seats
Aotearoa Legalise Cannabis Party 5,748 Votes 0.25% 0 Seats
Christian Heritage NZ 2,821 Votes 0.12% 0 Seats
Which Makes a 121 seat Parliament. Almost 99% of votes went towards a party which is represented in Parliament, making this a very representative election.
Adolf Chiang - October 1, 2005 03:37 AM (GMT)
Well, at least Nandor's gone.
Scuzza - October 1, 2005 03:45 AM (GMT)
The MPs I'm happiest see gone are Paul Adams and Marc Alexander, both United Future MPs.
Adolf Chiang - October 1, 2005 03:58 AM (GMT)
At least those two look like politicians, Nandor's appearance is somewhat of an embarassment.
Fez - October 1, 2005 04:33 AM (GMT)
Because appearnace means everything right Adolf?
El Matador - October 1, 2005 04:37 AM (GMT)
Maybe now Paul Adams can concentrate on his rallying career.

Does Nandor even look like a politician? Appearance isn't eveything, but you cetaintly don't wear shorts, gumboots and a wife beater to a formal evening.
Fez - October 1, 2005 04:53 AM (GMT)
^^ But you dont break the norm by not stepping outside the square.
Maybe its time tradition is set aside and people started seeing eachother for what they are and no what they wear/how they appear
El Matador - October 1, 2005 04:59 AM (GMT)
Nandor did not wear those sorts of clothes. He wore hemp suits for christ's sake.

What's next, a naked MP? Even if there are no traditions there would still be etiquette. It's because of his appearance that the Greens feed off youth votes.
Fez - October 1, 2005 05:31 AM (GMT)
Yea damn those youth, so under-dressed and obviously unintelligent why cant they just conform to societys norms like everyone else?
Hannoir - October 1, 2005 05:36 AM (GMT)
It really doesnt matter what politicians wear, as long as they are doing their job. I'd rather see a naked MP represent me decently than a grey suited guy do fuck all apart from represent his own personal agenda.
Brash conceeded. Last concession speech I heard I cried. But I wasnt doing that this time.
Senor - October 1, 2005 06:20 AM (GMT)
am i the only one that cant beleive that destinyNZ super cult central got 14,000 votes? WTF!

I can believe it, it is a cult after all, and there are enough people out there who will vote on a basis of Christianity.

templar34 - October 1, 2005 11:12 AM (GMT)
Well, after having a little chat with Ron Donald (? - 2nd in party), he was a bit upset that they lost Nandor.
Adolf Chiang - October 1, 2005 11:17 AM (GMT)
The leadership structure in the Greens resemble theoretical communism, both Donald and Fitzsimon are co-leaders, although the sexy hot mama ranks no. 1 on the candidate list.
What the hell does Nandor outside of politics? I wonder what career he had before being an MP.
Toby Turner - October 1, 2005 09:28 PM (GMT)
If you've ever actually listened to Nandor, you know he's one of the most intelligent and sincere politicians we have, and parliament is the worse for losing him. [FLAMES]
Happy Ahmed - October 1, 2005 09:31 PM (GMT)
Well put.
Good to meet you finally Toby.
Maliekieth - October 1, 2005 10:46 PM (GMT)
I'm not a greens supporter myself, but I'd have to agree, Nandor is one on to it guy. He has always come accross sincere, and I'd much rather have him representing me than say Rodney "The Turtle" Hyde or some other scammy bastard.
Should be an interesting week or two waiting for the exact makeup of our next government.
Adolf Chiang - October 2, 2005 12:31 AM (GMT)
The '05 election has been a victory for Labour but a defeat for New Zealand!

Now where's the nearest National Party flag I can get my hands on and wave?

Do you want me to give you Liz's number
You guys could have uber right wing kids together and live a conservative life in Mission Bay, never venturing into South Auckland for fear of darkies.

Who the hell is Liz? I don't have anything to do with the Hambeast. Besides, if she's conservative, why did she pose for porn? National is the party that matches my views closest, but it's still a quite a long way off.
I'm not afraid of South Auckland, in fact, I've been there several time this year. I don't discriminate that they're dark-skinned, but I do see how crime is crippling their community. It's a stereotype that South Auckland is all black as there are Whites and Asians that live there. However, the crippling crime there isn't a stereotype.

Most of the Green MPs come from a background of small business.
Kenneth Wang, the ACT MP who replaced Donna Awatere-Huata in the last term, called small business owners "the heart and soul of our country".
Max Calder, Leader of Greens-on-Campus, says ACT and the Greens have the most in common of all the parties in Parliament...
;)

Easy Tiger I was just jossing you, which I will do whenever you make a comment that is too easy to pass up.
You need to realise that some people have radically different viewpoints from you here and sometimes its best not to assume not everyone thinks the same way you do.

Aye, he is a true loss to Parliament. I can't really say that about any of the faceless Remueraites in ACT that are getting kicked out of parliament
