Title: Who Was This?
Hannoir - September 28, 2005 09:47 AM (GMT)
Who wants to own up?Uh so its not in Auckland but still, i'm sure someone here would do it.
Incidentally, my religion according to the 2001 UK census is Jedi Knight. Raaa.
Fez - September 28, 2005 09:50 AM (GMT)
Yea the Jedi master thing was me.
Also, good work on the Consensus thing, next time that rolls around for us I plan on personally leading the "make Jedi a religion" thing.
Fuck yea
Adolf Chiang - September 28, 2005 09:52 AM (GMT)
The whole Jedi religion things is some sci-fi joke started by Star Wars fans, it's just like those Star Trek idiots speaking Klingon.
Hannoir - September 28, 2005 09:58 AM (GMT)
I thought the Jedi master thing was you Fez.
Yeah, so at the time of the census I was at a highly christian school. if enough people put jedi knight as a religion, it was going to become an official religion. dunno if it did though.
El Matador - September 28, 2005 10:03 AM (GMT)
Those jerks and the census? They need to think about the english language. The religion is not 'jedi'. It's 'The Force'. Catholicism is not called 'Priest', is it?
Fez - September 28, 2005 11:00 AM (GMT)
you are obviously not of the Jedi religion
the oob - September 28, 2005 11:04 AM (GMT)
The trick is to get a lot of people to put 'CotFSM' as their religion, hopefully the Census people won't catch on that it stands for 'Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster'.

No, but people who follow Catholicism are called Catholics, hence people who follow the Jedi religion are called Jedi. If you were right, and the Jedi religion should be called 'The Force', then Catholicism should be called 'God'.
El Matador - September 28, 2005 11:11 AM (GMT)
My point was the religion itself is not 'jedi'. A jedi is a disciple of the force. To call it simply Jedi is to ignore the Sith, which provide darkness and balance to the force.
samf - September 28, 2005 11:13 AM (GMT)
Wouldn't the Sith be an opposing religion rather than part of the same one?
El Matador - September 28, 2005 11:21 AM (GMT)
I was thinking about that. But when you think of christianity, it combines both heaven and hell, Satan and god, etc. So I guess the Sith and Jedi are of similar ilk.
Adolf Chiang - September 28, 2005 11:25 AM (GMT)
Have you all forgotten that Star Wars awas a movie. Should there be a religion of the Force, would George Lucas be the Creator?

True, but Christians worship Christ and are therefore Christians, whilst those who worship Satan and follow him are known as Satanists - some of the same cosmology, but totally different religions. It's a bit more complicated with the Jedi/Sith thing, seeing they're supposed to be opposing sides of the same phenomenon.
Jeez, this is getting really pedantic. Last Star Wars related post in this thread from me. And Adolf, don't be silly - Lucas would just be the prophet to whom all has been revealed. :P
Fez - September 28, 2005 11:48 AM (GMT)
Hey, hey, hey Star Wars debate is my domain.
Sloanie, have you read the NJO? Then I suggest you do.
Then youll learn that there is no darkside and lightside of the force, only what we see in ourselves, we produce lightside and darkside results based on our actions but those actions may have been made for another cause which has nothing to do with the result entirely.
Confused?
Yea, thats why the religion is Jedi. Not "The Force"
Hannoir - September 28, 2005 12:05 PM (GMT)
Wow, I stimulate intellectual debate about a movie and cult I know nothing about.
I underestimate my skills sometimes.
Adolf Chiang - September 28, 2005 12:10 PM (GMT)
The point is, along with all things Star Wars, it's bloody fictional, we can therefore conclude that it is not a religion. Case closed!
*Hammer on gavel.*
(I wonder if those Star Wars-obsessed have anything better to do.)

And you just made my point
I could say that Christianity or Buddahism is fictional and be just as justified, plus you just insulted my religion STFU
Senor - September 28, 2005 09:35 PM (GMT)
exactly anything is fictional unless backed up with evidence. and their is SOOO much evidence for religion out there... we have a few books written by men, sometimes people have "feelings" and even better some people see gods!!! i mean they arn't halucinating or anything...
The whole point was to make an obviously false religion official, and many many people like star wars/jedi-ism (?). i mean fuck theres even a jedi code which makes more sense than 90% of other religions guidlines.
There is no emotion; there is peace.
There is no ignorance; there is knowledge.
There is no passion; there is serenity.
There is no death; there is the Force.
promoting peace, knowlege and serenity. why not follow in the ways of a jedi, you may be a bit on the cold unemotional side but meh u have a lightsaber.
Fez - September 28, 2005 09:51 PM (GMT)

When it comes down to it, anything can be a religion as long as you believe it is a religion.
I personally don't think there is a single catholic that share sthe exact same views as any other catholic. They all have differently marked edges, albeit slightly.

I'm liking the idea of Jediism. Show those jews who's boss!
And I am of the faith. Believe me.

Oi, no showing the jews who is boss.
we are all equal, man.
El Matador - September 29, 2005 09:42 PM (GMT)
Lol. By showing them who's boss, I meant stealing the underlying pronounciation of Judiasm and applying it to Jediism.

Question for Labour/leftwing voters:
If Labour had taken the country to Iraq, would it have affected your vote?
I ask because it seemed to me that the British election which returned Blair to office seemed to me to be a really depressed one. It was an election won in an atmosphere of 'that guy betrayed us, but the other lot are probably worse'. Would it have been the same here?

Seems that most people aren't willing to get rid of a party they otherwise like because they did one thing they didn't like.
Maus - October 3, 2005 03:00 AM (GMT)
Umm, I meant for this to go in the Labour Won the specials thing, not the who was this one. J'ai stupide.
And I don't really know if I like Labour. I just dislike them least.
