I was approached by a total of five 'Oh|My|God' cretins in the quad today. The fourth one I got into a raging argument with and told him I was a Jewish lesbian. That seemed to shut him up momentarily. The fifth one was greeted with "jesusfuck" as I stalked off.

I don't care if people are religious. Each to their own and all that shit. I just fucking can't stand fucking preaching. Well I don't think my first thought would be, "Oh I better go pray at my closest Brethren Branch", to be fucking honest. I'd be making sure everyone was okay and shit.

I have to disagree with most of you here.

To me, the essence of democracy is not the right to vote but the spirit of the free and fair competition for ideas, and discussion of our values.

This has limits, in that I don't think we should allow NAZI-style demonising of minorities to take place, but the christians on campus are not like that, according to their world view they have your best interests at heart.

Most of the people who want to talk to you are simply trying to make the world a better place, whether through political parties such as ACT, the Greens, Labour or National, or through NGO Aid orginisations like Oxfam, Save the Children, Greenpeace or CCF, or through religous groups such as the various Christian, Buddhist, Muslim or Jewish clubs on campus.

Really, its not that hard to simply say "No Thank-you" and walk past.

I'd take the friendly christians any day over the yokels who come up to the Labour stall at uni and say things like "So you work for that Bull-Dyke Bitch (read: they're envious she keeps winning) Helen Clark eh?". A better world begins when people start being nice to each other.
