Title: Global Warming

Dr_Steve - September 22, 2005 09:49 AM (GMT)
If any of you have taken Physics 107, you will have heard the argument that the effects of Global Warming that we are experiencing are cause by cycles of the sun rather than greenhouse gasses.
I read in the paper today that scientists have found that Mars has been increasing in temperature as well, which would appear support that theory. I noticed that there was no mention of global warming in the article.

So what are your thoughts?

Speaking of Mars, some scientists claim that Mars could be the preminition of Earth in the future, as it's interesting to note that it dried up and became unable to support life.

Hmmm... is global dimming (as well as the greenhouse effect obviously) caused by CO2?

The WHO is making an example of global warming out off the American hurricanes. They say with global warming, tropical disease death rates from the raw sewage will be 30% higher as more pathogens will be produced as a result of higher tempuratures.

It's also warning temperate parts of the Pacific (NZ included) to be vigilante of tropical diseases as the pathogens have an increased chance of surviving here from their mosquito hosts.

Interesting column by Mike Moore in the Herald today about this kinda thing. He's basically saying there have been doom merchants about since the middle ages :imaracist:

As Dr S. and I both know Physics is hard enough when you have a simple model, let alone trying to figure out what is going on with a system as complicated as the earth. I'm pretty sure moist people agree that the world is heating up though.

ps I saw the 'moist' typo but decided to leave it in because i thought it was funny
