Out of curiousity, what excuse did Cullen give for not releasing the documents in the first place?

Sorry, I forgot I had them in my other pair of pants.

Who cares about the Treasury, they're a bunch of biased extremists. You invest in the future by helping our students pay back loans, particulary doctors and teachers.

Yeah, I'm sure Labour is going to be a lot more objective about Labours policies than a politically neutral third party. Fuck the treasury.

It's cool how Cullen was using treasury reports to rubbish Key when he said National wouldn't have to borrow to fund their tax cuts.

Fuck I hate political parties.

the oob - September 14, 2005 08:39 PM (GMT)
Agreed. If only there were some way to have democracy without the inevitable parties that come along with it. The 'virtual democracy' from Civilization: Call to Power perhaps...

The biggest problem is you get people who are completely loyal to one party and will never admit it has any faults or has done anything wrong. I see voting for a party as an attempt to vote for the lesser evil.

Happy Ahmed - September 14, 2005 08:41 PM (GMT)
I should get everyone to vote for me.

or i'll fucking kill them.

Democracy under duress!

you need a overall consciousness that contacts everyone and can supply them with "spot votes" every now and then, sorta like referendums but inside you head so its instantaneous and like maybe twice a day you have to mentally vote on descisions that are going thru parliament. so its direct democracy (everyone is in power and votes on everything) on a large scale. its works perfectly in small communities but with a linked conciousness it would work world wide.

That's very similar to virtual democracy- every issue gets a referendum which is decided by internet polling. Of course, the technical issues make this unfeasible for the time being.

A leader should embody the physical and intellectual qualities we want to see in our population. At one end of the scale, you have Brash; at the other end, Arnie. Somewhere in between lies a happy medium.

Mr Lanky Bobs - September 14, 2005 11:18 PM (GMT)
or we could be like germany and have porn stars as mp's...

Happy Ahmed - September 14, 2005 11:22 PM (GMT)
Or like.... shemales and shit.

Sardonic - September 15, 2005 01:26 AM (GMT)
Well. Hypocracy.

I dont really care what the figures say. I do give a shit that because Labour is the party in government that they were FORCED to release these figures by the ombudsmen. However National isnt forced to release the figures of the cost of their tax cuts.

Remember that the student loans are LABOUR policy not government policy. Just like the tax cuts are National policy.

I fucking hate hypocracy

the oob - September 15, 2005 01:32 AM (GMT)
You're right, they should all have to release their figures prior to the election.
