well I figure well probably be in agreement on this one but here's my two cents:
cent one they need to stick some thumbtacks on Benson-Pope's chair or something - we're not paying him for naps.
cent two why should the government control what the media reports from the chaimber? Sounds just a little bit like Stalin to me...
liz_shaw - April 1, 2005 12:01 AM (GMT)
They don't want people to see what really goes in on there because they are afraid of looking bad.
And yes it is very dictatorship because they are in effect controlling the media and thus biasing it which takes away free media and free speech.

did any one catch "inside NZ " on tv3 last night.
yams - April 1, 2005 02:16 AM (GMT)
what are these standing orders any? that mp's can't look bad?
liz_shaw - April 1, 2005 03:18 AM (GMT)
Pretty much but I bet that labour would be the first party to defame other parties. I have no evidence of this, it is an opinion.
Actually my evidence is that they proposed to have no cameras other than their own in the debating chamber.

Show what actually happens........ maybe if they didnt sleep etc........ we'd have a decent govt
liz_shaw - April 1, 2005 05:44 AM (GMT)
Exactly.
I actually can't believe that a week or so ago the government was considering not allowing any but their own cameras in there.
Censorship anyone, with that sort of control they would attempt to discredit the other politicians.
having said that, the speaker of the house has the power to stop all the radio stations.

kiwi_hockey_guy - April 1, 2005 05:46 AM (GMT)
Oh how i wish to be in that kind of possition........... being able to stop all radio stations! :hilarious: :hilarious:
liz_shaw - April 1, 2005 05:56 AM (GMT)
If they were to remove cameras then they would be eing quite dictatorial.
Also by banning TV3 from the debating chamber they are punishing the public because of tv3s actions which I personally think are alright.
This isn't right.
kiwi_hockey_guy - April 1, 2005 06:00 AM (GMT)
like i said before show what happens......... what are they trying to hide from us? (apart from the nap's)
liz_shaw - April 1, 2005 06:07 AM (GMT)
I've been in the debating chamber a few times. They are probably trying to hide the fact that the right wing debate without personal att Shiavo is dead
kiwi_hockey_guy - April 1, 2005 06:13 AM (GMT)
is Tv1 govt owned? if so wouldnt banning tv3 be in there favour as u may have people switch channels 2 watch what happened 2day in the chamber?
liz_shaw - April 1, 2005 06:18 AM (GMT)
Yes TV1 is government owned and it has gone downhill since they took over ownership.
It is favouritism, TV3 have only been banned for a week but a week, a lot can happen in a week.
I am going to make an assumption that we are all tv3 watchers primarily, in fact Im watching tv3 news now.
I wonder what laws there are regarding cameras in parliament.
kiwi_hockey_guy - April 1, 2005 06:26 AM (GMT)
tv1 news is dated.......... i remember watching it when i was like 5-6 at grandma's house and not a lot has changed since then
liz_shaw - April 1, 2005 06:32 AM (GMT)
yeah even the young people working for tv1 news are looking about 10 years beyond their age.
You knwo those two who are on the bus?
kiwi_hockey_guy - April 1, 2005 06:35 AM (GMT)
liz_shaw - April 1, 2005 10:30 AM (GMT)
well they are so much better on tv3, always progressing.
The ad on the bus has the two weekend presenters and they just look so incredibly dull and boring.
kiwi_hockey_guy - April 1, 2005 10:33 AM (GMT)
ok i'll keep an eye out for it......

Actually, TV1 news aint that bad.
Compare it to say, BBC or SkyNews. I would think that TV1 news is pretty good, at least it doesnt put you to sleep.
Old people watches TV1 news is because coronation street comes after it..
liz_shaw - April 3, 2005 11:19 AM (GMT)
That is incorrect, close up does and then it is coronation street.
I like tv3 news personally.
