Title: Abortion
liz_shaw - March 30, 2005 11:23 AM (GMT)
I thought I would bring this topic up after the recent news regarding Terri Shiavo, euthanasia, abortion and stem cells.
I am pro abortion.
What are your views?

Although I don't like the practice, I have to agree that it should be legal.

but in the event that I was ever in that situation I would make sure i was asleep when they did it.

I'm Pro-Choice. Which I guess by your poll would be circumstancial. I think women should have the right to terminate a pregnancy for whatever reason they feel it is necicarry.

I think people should have a choice in these matters. If people don't like it, they don't have to do it...
liz_shaw - March 31, 2005 05:28 AM (GMT)
yeah i totally agree, what they are proposing in the states is completely wrong.

I voted Circumstantial.
Meaning I think it depends on the circumstances, but also pro-choice so I guess Im leaning more towards "For"

I took a look at the question and ended up voting "Against". It's a badly phrased question so I did my best. Does it mean whether we approve of it personally? Or whether we think it should be legal?
I voted "Against" because I come from a Catholic background, and still hold to that definition of when life begins - at conception. Those are my personal beliefs. However, if you ask me if I think abortion should be legal and freely available, my answer would definitely be "Yes". It's a matter of religious and personal conscience, and the state has no right to withhold access to abortion from people who don't have religious or personal objections to it. It's also necessary in case a mother's life is at risk from an abnormal pregnancy, and in other extreme situations.
If you quizzed me on the civil unions act or other similar "moral" debates, I'd give much the same response.

well you have pretty much answered that you do think that people should have the freedom. You just would hope that people would either keep the baby or have it adopted out.
It is a freedom and free choice issue really.
Civil unions is also about freedom but what bugs me about these couple laws, in general is that some people are forced into it after the 2 years they've lived together, this is wrong.

The main problem I see with a society that is 'FOR' abortion is that people will ultimately end up abusing it. People using abortion as a regular form of contraception. It happens now and probably will get worse.
smiley - April 18, 2005 03:19 PM (GMT)
Yes and that is very wrong that they use it as a form of contraception.
I do feel that people who aren't responsible enough to use protection or at least get hte morning after pill are not responsible enough to have a baby. I know having an abortion is damaging, I've heard of people who've had them and been scarred but adoption can be just as traumatic, you are still giving up a baby.
Open adoption is the ultimate choice and I support that.
When it comes to abortion, it is best to have an abortion if you do not want the baby, are unable to support it financially and/or emotionally. that is because there is nothing worse than bringing a child into the world that you do not want. You would only resent it. This could lead to abuse and maybe death in the worst case scenario.
I think that others have summed it up, abortion is something that is very circumstantial. I did some research a while ago about it and you have to meet a certain criteria to qualify for it. I don't know that exact criteria but at least htere are measures in place to try and prevent abuse of it.
templar34 - April 23, 2005 02:47 AM (GMT)
Circumstantial. Sometimes yes, you made a mistake and got her pregnant, when neither of you want a child.
Sometimes....actually.....F&*K.
Meant to vote PRO.
